It must be my turn

Several days before surgery, I was asked if I'd like to take part in a study on the different types of muscle relaxant reversal used at the end if surgery, to wake me up.
I said yes immediately, cause anything to help out.

Best decision I'd made in years.
I inspired me to write down how I'm feeling every hour or so.
Most of this isn't relevant to their study, but hopefully to you guys.

Out like a light.
I just remember the oxygen mask at the start.
Whole anastesia experience was trouble-free. Thankyou.

Surgery finished at 2pm
Slept for a bit.
Sleepy again at 7pm

Regular stabbing pain in perineum all day.
Morphine helped for a little while - turned it into a dull ache.
Pain gone by 10pm

Very dry mouth. Water didn't help.
Ice cream or jelly helped.
Dry lips. Used lip balm.

Hurts my stomach when trying to clear my throat, laugh or try to lie on my side.

Still on oxygen, but never had any breathing troubles so not sure how long I'll have this. I couldn't feel (or need) it, so I asked a nurse. It was set to 1.

No sore throat, but one or two coughs, so I try to avoid that because it hurts my stomach.

Dry mouth is driving me nuts.
They won't let me have ice for this room temperature water, which doesn't help with hydrating.

I went into theatre with one lure in my hand but came out with two. It took me 5 hours & a really good sleep to notice. I had to ask a nurse where the 2nd one came from. Pain management was amazing. I must have really been given the good stuff.

Dull ache in my stomach 8 hours after surgery. (I might just be hungry - I've hardly eaten in 17 hours).

I've been lying on my back for 8 hours.
What happened to the walking within 2 hours of surgery, that I've been reading about for months?

Woke up at midnight feeling a bit nauseous. Went back to sleep.

Also wanted to say, you might want to add the type surgery you had. I myself haven't had any surgery, I can assume the type you had but that is never a good idea. Best to you on your recovery.

Oh - laproscopic prostatectomy - not robotic cause it doesn't seem to be the standard down here.

Peter , sounds like great pain control and your well on your way to recovery . How old are you ? Find out what they used for pain control , as usually its a cocktail . Good knowledge for future IF you needed it , per se . Your sitting up now - good . No fever ? God Bless . James on Vancouver Island .

Hi my dad has been diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer. He has done Orchiectomy surgery last year in may. And then 6 cycle of chemo (docetaxel). He is currently on Enzalutamide for 11 months.He started having pain on his hip area and it was really strong pain as in 8 to 9 out of 10. And it has stayed for 4 to 5 days. Then pain stopped.
Then he started having pain
around is ribs area and that also srayed for few days and gone.
Dad currently has weakness which has increased in past few months.
4. His last PSA was 0.092 and prior to that it was 0.070 so it has fairly increase.
Does anyone has experienced similar situation. the pain in the hip and ribs are the indication of cancer cell increasing and the increase could be the result of those pain.

Thankyou James. I've had lots of things, but the highlights so far are Tylenol and morphine - in injection & pill form. A big fan of morphine now (although) my only previous knowledge of it was via the Rolling Stones song Sister Morphine- allegedly co-written with Janis Joplin). But it's either 3 hits of that, or the 3 days in hospital so far. But something's working. I'm surprised by the process but I've just been told that I'll probably have one more day in hospital because my oxygen level isn't quite what it should be. Also... was anyone else who's had a prostatectomy asked if they want their prostate back? What a weird question...

Oh - and I just turned 60. This all started with a random PSA test that I didn't even ask for. Then more PSA's biopsy & surgery.
