I had a Stapedectomy a little longer that 2 years ago. My recovery from Tinnitus, pain, mild nausea, etc, was pretty quick. BUT! I have not 100%, but probably 200% success resulting in a condition called Hyperacusis- making everything you hear by operative ear incredibly loud. In many situations, I need to put either ear plug or simply cotton ball in, and it may significantly distort sound too. This loudness may change its character several times a day, from hissing to hallow to booming, but still the same loud.
I had this procedure done by brilliant surgeon, and consulted after that by renown neuro-otologist - they all thinking that the brain suppose to adapt to the new volume, but surprised how long the process is taking. They even have ordered brain MRI, but nothing suggested anything related to this problem.
2 years! Have anybody had similar experience? I will deeply appreciate any reply
