the prevailing thought from the osteoporosis specialists is that osteoporosis is a condition that requires ongoing treatment. Most of the bone gain is lost after you quit taking the medication. The great exception is Prolia where you not only lose the entire gain but more. If it isn't followed by another drug, a patient would be better off never having taken it. Your doctor warns you wisely about Prolia.
The bisphosphonates like alendronate (Fosamax), risidronate or ibandronate clad your bones for years and so have longer term fracture prevention after cessation. But they build a weaker bone.
Forteo and Tymlos build the best bone. Both prevail over a year after use and they never make you worse off than before use. Still, they have to be followed by a relay medication.
Reclast is a yearly injection, but because of your reaction to Fosamax you'd want to be cautious with taking a similar drug that could cause foot pain for a year or more.
Everything depends upon your bone scores.
None of us like the committment to a life time of osteoporosis pharmaceuticals, we're all afraid of fracture. And when you think of it the committment is similar to eating or brushing your teeth or exercising, except for the possibility of side effects.

I happen to be on Prolia after 5 years of Reclast. I read what you wrote to @jozer and am curious as to your source of information. I know that i will never be off Prolia as my doctor said so and he explained why I should take it versus the others. So, I am curious as to why Forteo and Tymlos are better than Prolia and again…the proof. Thanks.
