Chronic Inactive Gastritis

Posted by amerc @amerc, Jul 6 6:17am

Hi. I was also diagnosed after endoscopy with H Pylori and mild chronic inactive gastritis in September 22. Went through the antibiotics course and had another endoscopy in March 23 which confirmed Helicobacter had gone or not seen but Mild chronic inactive gastritis was still present. I have been on 40mg pantoprazole daily. Symptoms gradually improved but since may 24 they have returned.. Symptoms mainly tightness or dual pain (sometimes sharp) in the upper abdominal centre right where the rib cage ends. Occasionally heartburn but not a daily Symptoms..

I would like to know how if you are living with chronic inactive gastritis and for how many years and what makes it better.

Does chronic inactive gastritis give flare ups.

Does stress aggrevate gastritis

Hi I have gastritis for years now. When it’s bad I do ppi and famotadine as well as Maalox. Stress definitely makes it worse for me. Since there have been health issues within my family my stress levels are high right now. In addition to meds I put ice packs on my chest and abdomen for temporary relief. Also talking to my therapist helps ! Good luck. It definitely gets better. 😊

Thanks for sharing

How many PPI and famotidine do you take in a day and for how many days. Also does Maalox work better than Gaviscon?

Have you had endoscopy to confirm gastritis

REPLY

Yes I had endoscopy. 20 mgs Nexium and 40 of famitadine. I think Maalox works better for me.

Thank you. Hope things settle down for you soon (and me 😃 )

Ask for carafate from your doctor. I’ve had good results with it. It seems to coat the stomach. I take it along with pantroproze when needed.

It’s also known as Sucralfste suspension 1GM/10ML

I have had gastritis for years. Stress makes it worse but it’s also seasonal, worse in spring and fall. It’s hereditary too. The PPIs , H2 blockers like famotidine and antacids all help. I think liquid antacids work better than tablets but I keep tablets in purse for on the go. Carafate comes in suspension and tablets and is very effective if the other things aren’t enough. Tablet antacids like Tums can cause you to get too much calcium if you exceed recommended dosage and could cause kidney stones if you chronically overdose on those. One can take all 4 categories of meds if need be for short periods of time, like 2-3 weeks, then back off some for maintenance. They all work differently but complement each other.
