sugar numbers

lilyann here, never had an issue with diabetes or sugar results till after this thyroid cancer removal. so with the swallowing issues, i have been eating a lot more beans mashed of course. along with mashed veggies and chopped up chicken to where i make it like a thick soup. it seems like my numbers have increased from 75, 85, 95 and now 113 on this last pet scan i had. so i know i have increased the carbs. has anyone one else's changed ever since they had the thyroid cancer and the change in their diet. so i will be making sure i have more protein but a lot of the carbs was the chick pea which i made into a "hummus" oh, is that ever so good and that alone has 14. 5 grams of protein. i have alway been a protein person being i had the hypoglycemic weak spells. i've been on weight watchers back "when". too much going on with those protein powders, even watched a video where someone went through costco and talked about each and everyone of the products, of what they had in their ingredients with only coming down to maybe one or 2 of them which was worth buying. got to read the labels. still recovering from dental surgery and not up to par. wishing everyone the best.

Hi, Lilyann! Sounds like you've really had a lot to deal with. I've been dealing with Type2 diabetes for a quarter of a century so far, and the two main things that have always worked best have been controlling carbs, portion size, and exercise. But I have to keep an eye on my blood glucose numbers every day to make sure that I have the right balance in all those things. This is especially important if one is taking meds or insulin. No two days are exactly the same, so it pays to know the numbers, so action can be taken with diet, exercise, or meds. If you want to lower and control your numbers, the best way is to test with a blood glucose meter around food and exercise and meds, if needed. A Continuous Glucose Monitor (CGM) would conveniently display your numbers at all times, and all you need is a prescription from your doctor, or to order one of the new over-the-counter CGMs directly from Abbott or Dexcom -- but keep in mind that they're limited to BG levels of 200 or 250 and under, so would only be useful for those with pre-diabetes or who want to use them for better nutrition, health, or sports reasons.
Your soup sounds delicious, but perhaps decreasing the carbs (mainly in the starchy carbs of the chickpeas) and/or portion size (at least temporarily) might be beneficial to your blood sugar levels. They look pretty good to me, but I see that you are concerned about the rise, which may or may not be temporary.

good morning grrranny, thank you so much for your reply and i am going to look into getting one of those monitors. thanks for breaking them down for me and the specifics. thank you for your concern and attention. coming from someone dealing with diabetes, i will surely take your advice and i will be working on cutting down now on the softer food being my mouth is doing much better. still have to watch some foods due to the swallowing problem, but, i am really into my food processor for sure. wishing you wellness and happiness.

You are under a lot of stress and stress affects the sugar numbers but have you increased your portion size maybe because of the mashed food you might be eating more in a single serving beans and lentils do have carbs but one needs to control the serving size hopefully you will be up and about a wee bit of walk even in your room can lower the number al the best may you have a speedy recovery
