Why is platelet count above normal after ovarian cancer surgery?
Blood tests before and the first 3 days after surgery showed platelet
count in normal range, under 400. 3 weeks after surgery the platelet
count is at 500. Is there a correlation between platelet count and
survival prognosis? I will start with the first chemo treatment next
week.

my platelet count is trending to normal, from 118 to 132 last week,
I have a blood draw tomorrow, then I will see, I finished my
last chemo last week, I'm on my 7th day after chemo, and
the side effects, pain, usually get worse, I needed pain medication
every 6 hours, the pain is less today, no appetite, my taste buds are off, I eat bland noodles, bland cooked potatoes, bland rice, some very ripe pears- thank you for asking me
how I'm doing- it helps a lot to be thought of-
@charlotte12 I go through my list of active members in our Gynecological Cancers Support Group "check up" on them every day. You are in my thoughts and I appreciate that you've keep us informed so we know how we can support you. I'm relieved to know that your platelet count is returning to a normal range. And you completed your last chemo treatment a week ago. Although your taste is off is there anything you like to eat texture-wise during this recovery phase?
one thing i've finally found (weird as it sounds) that has helped with my tastes being off is cold imitation crab meat... early on in chemo i learned i was wanting more seafood (oysters, scallops, clams, etc basically shellfish) which i later realized are high in zinc...but one day at the local grocery store i found some imitation crab meat on a party tray that was marked down and it actually looked appealing to me...so i bought it and omg it tasted so good and "normal"...so its been my go to food after chemo cause it keeps the metallic taste away for up to 30 min after eating a piece so i pick at it all day...
thank you to share your experience with seafood, I may try it, I don't crave it now, I still can tolerate some fruits, like grapes and ripe pears - every day is different, I liked mashed potatoes with cottage cheese for a while-
Most food I eat is soft and does not need a lot of chewing, I know that there will be improvement with time-
I just need to remember to eat healthy - I like fresh steamed brussels sprouts with
any carb right now, I also drink one bottle of boost, vanilla, 10 or 20% protein, thanks for your support and comfort-
thats what i found with the imitation crab meat, its soft and doesn't require a lot of chewing but its protein...also i do stuffed clams and stuffed scallops for same reason...its soft and doesn't require chewing...
