I really feel you, man. I’m only on week 6 and so far so good; but I know it’s early days for me.
The ADT does give you a belly. I see it a bit already even though I have no external fat or blubber - must be visceral fat but there’s nothing you can do about it. Let’s both hope it goes away when we’re done since having a gut makes us feel like losers - at least in OUR minds.
It’s ridiculous to judge ourselves that way, isn’t it? Funny, but I don’t judge others who are in less than optimal shape - in fact, I almost envy them, comfortable in their own skin and not hung up on ‘looks’. They actually seem happier!! Forchrissakes I’m a 70 yr old man - when the f**** am I gonna kick back and take it easy on myself??! I think you are kind of the same - as are many of the guys on this board. All over-achievers ( runners, canoers, hikers, skiers) who push themselves thru ADT. We cannot accept the fact that our bodies have betrayed us after all the exercise, nutrition and care we’ve given them….damned ungrateful if you ask me…but there it is…
I am shocked that your care team is so aloof. I am at Sloan Kettering and I was under the impression that due to their elevated reputation in cancer care, they would have a huge chip on their shoulder and treat me like a mere nuisance for even daring to ask a question….NOT SO!! They have been amazing, answering any question at all within 24 hrs either via email, text or phonecall. I have an RO, a PA for hormones and bloodwork, a nutritionist for diet and bowel health and a support staff second to none. I would lose my mind if I was treated the way you’ve been; there are NO excuses for that and I am at a loss to recommend anything you can do on your end.
In an extreme case you could go to a different provider in the same hospital or go to a different hospital center altogether before you start your radiation ( if you have not already completed it).
They say that you never change horses midstream but every time in my life that I felt the horse not up to the rest of the journey I HAVE switched and haver NEVER regretted it. Hope you make some headway going forward. Good luck, buddy!
