does anyone have gout

I was recently diagnosed with gout and can attest to the fact that it is painful. No one in my family that I can recall ever had it.
On Aug 5 of this year, my nephrologist prescribed Allopurinol (100 mg twice daily) to lower my uric acid. To date it hasn't lowered my uric acid to the point of no flare-ups so he also prescribed a methylprednisolone 4mg dose pack for the flare-ups. I take 6 tablets of the methylprednisolone the first day (all 4mg each, taken throughout the day), then 5 the second day, and so on until day 6 when I take the last tablet. After the first 2 tablets on day 1, I can move and resume my 3 mile walk in the mornings and tend to the dogs and horses.
Thus far, I have not experienced any of the side-effects listed on the prescription info sheet that my pharmacy provides. My doctor says the Allopurinol can take a long time (even up to 2-4 months for some patients) for the body to get used to it and begin to lower the uric acid.
Hopefully the allopurinol will begin to do it's thing. Btw, I am watching what I eat and avoiding red meats, shellfish, processed foods (as much as possible) sugary drinks and alcohol.
Has anyone else had to wait this long for the allopurinol to kick-in?
Prayers for wellness and relief from pain for us all.

Hey bnb30602, My family member was bumped up to 300 mg once a day of Allopurinol and it worked great for many years with only a few times of breakthrough gout. They then took the Cochicine for breakthrough gout that worked wonderfully. They get it in their ankles, knees and toes.

They are now on 600 mg of Allopurinol a day for the past 3 weeks and had their uric acid level checked this morning.

You may ask your doctor if he thinks increasing the Allopurinol would help.

Praying for you as gout is very painful. Blessings.....
