Best underwear?

Posted by chipe @chipe, Sep 8 4:55pm

I am having my RP next Monday, and I know I will be catheterized for a little more than a week. I have been planning on using disposable underwear for the next few weeks/months, but what about underwear you can wash? Do any of them have pockets for pads? Do the ones with built-in pads work? Boxers or briefs?
THANKS

Come on.... tell us your secret. How did you get away with NO incontinence?
I've got surgery in a week & not looking forward to the incontinence part.

I had about a month until my surgery. I did Kegels religiously; 10quick one’s a couple of times an hour. After my catheter was removed, I was told to do 10quick and 10 with a 5-10 second hold every hour. I set my timer so I didn’t forget to do them. Even my surgeon was surprised. I told him it was because I had an excellent surgeon too. He said, ah, yes. I really believe it was Kegel exercises. BTW, my surgeon showed me how to do them. I didn’t need a Physical Therapist.

Wow. You're lucky.
I've seen a physio twice so far & can't move my pelvic floor muscles at all.
I think she gave up in the end & I'll go back post-surgery.

I went and bought a big bag of "depends" before my RP, but guess what? It turned out that wasn't my problem. Now that's the kind of problem I prefer :-).
Just saying, we don't know what our personal situation will turn out to be like. And as we all know, we can't trade problems with each other--and my guess is that probably wouldn't work out well anyway.
After the catheter came out, I used a scale to weigh the diapers to figure out how much I was leaking.

My surgery was 2 weeks ago.
In preparation for the urinary incontinence, I got depends, male pads, and pads for the bed.
My urinary issues have been minimal.
I am still recovering at home.
When I feel the need to urinate
Just walk to the bathroom,
I use a pad during the day.
The pads have one sticky side, which attach to any pants I wear.
Mostly wear running pants with
liner, so no need to use underwear
and the pad stay in place.
I always use oversized boxers to sleep , now I put a depend and my boxers.
So far only a few spots of urine at the end of the day with the pads.
More urine spots at night with the depend.
As days passed I have more control and less dripping, and urine flow way more stronger than before surgery. No pain, and less trips to the bathroom.
Good luck and Good Health to you
during your recovery!

Pair of Thieves underwear. They’re elastic and keep everything in place. Walmart.
