I did not have a wrist fusion but had outpatient surgery 7-8 years ago to join wrist bone using a titanium plate. The incision is 4 in long most healed but a protion in the middle was not healing and oozing. They had to go in again to clean the incision and required fluid drain for a couple days.
Thank you, for the response.
Hello! I understand your anxiety regarding wrist surgery.
25+yrs ago my right wrist developed painful fluid filled cyst that was aspirated of fluid, but it returned. Many months of rest, inactivity did not resolve painful right arm. Finally agreed to reconstructive surgery: ulna cut and about 2in removed, as well as complete cyst tissue and a screw installed through both wrist bones.
Result: slow recovery and much edema in right arm, but time and inactivity resulted in 80% ability to rotate right hand, resolved all edema and swelling, no pain.
This was done by Wrist & Hand Specialist in San Diego, CA.
Hope my experience helps you make the best decision for you.
Thank you, saw the surgeon, has given me a splint to wear and more shots, wants to wait 3 months to see how the splint works, also gave me items to use on pot handles and jar openers, can hardly use my thumb, have no cartilage and a bone spur on thumb. Hoping it will get a little better, since it's my dominant hand.
