Post-cholecystectomy or gallbladder removal surgery

Posted by msb18 @msb18, Dec 11, 2018

Hi – I had my gallbladder removed 17 years ago and have chronic, sharp back pain behind the port incision. That incision was in my upper left abdominal quadrant; the pain is felt in my back, directly behind the incision. It is thought that I have an adhesion in my upper left quadrant. Is it possible that nerves are trapped and that it causes referred pain in my back? The pain is nauseating and hasn't improved. I have been on anti seizure medication and a pain killer that isn't a percocet-type medication. I am curious if anyone else has persistent pain in their back following gallbladder surgery. If so, how is your pain treated.

Pittsburgh would be a great start- you have a very well known university hospital there.
Go ahead and contact them!
Let us know how it works out. We are always eager and grateful to get follow up information.

Well I thought I'd wait for this colonoscopy and if they still want to play around then I'll go to pitt.

I have a lot of your symptoms, but have had no surgery. When the diarrhea got so frequently my GI did a EGD and colonoscopy. It showed ulceration throughout my esophagus and intestines. The biopsy showed I have autoimmune microscopic colitis. I just got diagnosed last week. I now am on a new journey, trying to figure out how to eat. I am on a medication to help my gut heal. I'd like to keep in touch with you to see how you do!

Wondering what medication the doc put you on? Also curious what type of dietary restrictions you have?

Now, I'm a 33 year old female. Ever since I was 20 years old I've had digestive issues. It started out as acid reflux. Okay, got a Nissen fundoplication in December 2014. Then I got pregnant inSeptember 2015 and found out in November. and gradually over time it loosened after i had my son. I got my acid reflux back in about 2018. It wasn't bad so I didn't think much of it. Over time it got worse. So I went back to the surgeon i was seeing. He said I'm not touching you again. So I went to my pcp at the time and he said I'll talk to your surgeon. They came up with the idea of gastric bypass. So I did it. That was April 2021. Then 2 weeks later I had a bowel obstruction. Had to go back under. The surgeon never told me hey you might end up needing your gallbladder removed eventually. I lost 80 lbs because of the diet they stick me on to prepare my body for gastric bypass. Kept it off because of the surgery. Well this past may. May 16th. I had to get my gallbladder removed. And ever since then I'm going down hill. I can't keep ANYTHING in my body. I mostly spend alot of time in the bathroom on the toilet. But wen I walk to work, I'm tired by the time I get there. A 20 min walk downhill. Exhausted. A have to somehow summon the energy for the rest of the day. Everytime I eat, bathroom. Drink, bathroom. And I went to the gastro dr. They ran tests. They said I have an abscess. The surgeon said it's possibly colitis. So, yes. In April 2024, I was 212. Now I'm 150. And quite frankly idk how long I can keep going. I just want to give up.

I am on Budesomide, just 1 capsule now. I was on 3 a day, but it gave me bad side effects. He suggested that I try a gluten free diet, with lots of well cooked, steamed, so they don't loose their nutrients. I eat mainly chicken or wild sockeye salmon. I had a piece of lean pork loin and did well with it. Mainly, my Dr said to try to eat lowfat and bland. I' m also on a temporary dose of omeprozole in the morning. I'm new at this, so I'm still trying to figure it all out.

Yes, I'd definitely get the colonoscopy, so they can get biopsies and give you a definite diagnosis. 💕

I can barely eat anything, everything makes me sick or run to bathroom 🚽 like you .
I’m on my 6 th Gastro Dr.
Did many colonoscopy’s and endoscopy’s and about every other test . Even waited 8 months yo do 3 tests at Mayo Clinic Jacksonville campus in 2021.
Tried everything holistic too and diet wise . Functional medicine, you name it .
It robs you of all the joys of life .
You are so young to be going through all this too !!
Please seek out a second opinion or third . My newest Gastro is 1 by 15 min away but , she’s not much help at all .
I’m going to be doing the pill cam next . It can see more by taking 1000’s of pics . Google it. .
