I had a full course of Evenity every 4 weeks x 12 with no side effects. I feel very blessed.
Did you have a Dexa after to see results of your year on Evenity?
Yes, I had a Dexa about 3 weeks after my last Evenity, then saw my osteoporosis Dr. about 2 weeks later. I went from osteoporosis to osteopenia in spine, both hips, and both femoral necks!
T scores:
Spine from -2.4 to -1.9 (8% change)
Left hip from -1.6 to -1.4 (3% change)
Left femoral neck from -2.6 to -2.3 (7.5% change)
Right hip from -1.9 to -1.8 (1.1% change)
Right femoral neck from -2.7 to -2.4 (6 % change)
After considering all options, I began Prolia a couple days after seeing my Dr. I have had no side effects or problems.
I've posted in other discussions, but wanted to let you know that after my 1st round of Evenity I had extremely (I mean extremely sore arms). So for rounds 2 - 12, I had the injections in my abdomen with very, very minimal tenderness. I could wear jeans and waisted clothing with not problem. Therefore, I chose to have the Prolia injection in my abdomen and had no tenderness.
Wow, lucky you! Thanks for sharing. After Prolia then what to lock it in?
That remains to be seen. Will discuss when I have follow up with my Dr.
@vrgarden youe DEXA scores weren't bad to begin with. Interesting that insurance covered Evenity for you. Did you have fractures?
You are in good shape so wondering why Prolia if you could "lock in" the gains more easily with Reclast or Fosamax. You don't have scores in osteoporosis anywhere in your body- congratulations.
No, I don't have any fractures. However, due to moving too fast and not paying attention, I've broken toes, hand, and foot bones. I began taking biphosphonates as ordered when DEXAs revealed osteopenia.
Because I'm widowed, live by myself, haven idea of my family history (adopted), cared for my husband with cancer for 13 years before his passing and at the same time cared for my mother for the last 10 years of her life, and am pretty much on my own, it's very important that I'm my own advocate.
Over the years with routine doctor visits and lab results and circumstances which have led to other tests, I have other health issues I need to follow up on (thyroid, cardiac, GI). So I face these challenges and attempt to get the best medical advice and follow through.
I'm very thankful my mind is still sharp and I'm able to take care of myself.
Those fracturesno doubt got you insurance coverage @vrgarden.
@dreamjean1958, I've had 11 Evenity shots without any significant side effects. My side effects are so insignificant they are not worth mentioning. I had all shots in the tummy which was what I asked for.
I had a DXA that covered 10 of the shots and I had a 30% gain in LS. I went from a worst score of -4.1 LS to -2.2 LS. I couldn't believe it! My doctor said he had seen that before but I hadn't heard of it. I was secretly dreaming and hoping for 20% so this was beyond the pale. I had an experienced densitometrist check my previous and current scan to check for errors. He said they looked ok. I did eventually find one study where out of 29 treated with Evenity one patient got 20% and one got 30%.
Anyway great things are possible and it's certainly possible to have little to no reaction to Evenity.
