Update, YAY for acupuncture for nausea: What's next after chemo?

Posted by MommaCandy @mommacandy, Aug 28 11:45am

so i know its been a while since i updated (think it was right after my gallbladder surgery) but i've had two chemo sessions since then...one was in July and went back the 8th of Aug i think it was and my blood was too low to get chemo...so..2 units of blood, a bag of magnesium, bag of potassium and ANOTHER Neulasta shot... then back last week for the chemo...i wasn't able to get acupuncture before that one and OMG the difference it has made...this go around the after effects are as bad as my first chemo...so DEFINITELY in my case acupuncture makes a HUGE difference in managing the after effects of the chemo..
on a side note, my CA 125 were at 18 last week.. after having been at 15 two weeks prior when i ended up having to get 2 units of blood.....so i'm HOPING to see them drop back when i go back on the 11th... and IF all goes well that will be my last chemo...i have a CT scheduled for the end of Sept and we'll discuss from there what route will be taken... which brings me to the last thing
what options have you all done after chemo? they've mentioned something about 2 years on some sort of pill thats supposed to be highly effective with brca1 gene stuff? not liking that idea too much...

Hi mommacandy,
Just wondering what acupuncture did for you? Was it for peripheral neuropathy by any chance? I am still numb after five months post-chemo.

actually it kept a LOT of the nausea, vomiting, etc at bay as well as the diarrhea and so forth...those are my main side effects from the taxol/carbo combo i take...i already made an appt to get acupuncture before my chemo on Sept 11...i get it the day before treatment...this last time i was unable to get in and i thought "well it won't be that bad" WRONG...its been a week of misery...still...today makes day 7 after chemo and the diarrhea hasn't slowed yet... so definitely a big difference than previous ones... i've been told it CAN help with the neuropathy BUT i've not had that in my case so can't speak from experience on that...

Thanks for that. Yeah, it's the neuropathy that is had to live with. I didn't have problems with nausea and vomiting, probably because I was taking anti-nausea medication prescribed by my oncologist. I can't remember the names. And, I never thought about getting acupuncture before the treatment. Good idea:)

oh believe me i still have to take nausea meds on occasion but there's a world of difference in the amount of them needed...

I'll check into that. I'm about to go into a clinical study using immunotherapy. Will see if acupuncture will relieve some of the symptoms--nausea, hyertension etc.
Thanks

@mommacandy, have you learned more about what is next after chemotherapy for you?

REPLY

actually yes I have..and I'm not happy with it...I was going to post and ask for people's thoughts ...they want me to take Lynparza..and I'm not thrilled with what I'm reading about it...

I finished chemo (6 treatments) about 10 days ago and next up I get a CT scan, then meeting with the oncologist, then I can share what will be next. I still
go to the weekly blood draw.
