Sore scalp and tender spots on head
I've been diagnosed with Stage 4 Breast Cancer in January 2024. Doctor prescribed Letrozole and Kisqali and Zobone. For the last 2 weeks I'm experiencing a new symptom. The back of my head has a burning sensation and also tingles at times. The sensation would also move to the top of my head around crown area and sides of head. Anyone experienced something like this? Just such an annoying feeling.

Can you get it checked out?
I just met with a surgeon after ultrasound to check for spread, negative. I am curious how you found out you were stage 4. I asked the surgeon about this and the answer was basically any focal persistent pain or fracture without falling. Well I have arthritis and bone spurs and 7 spinal fractures so not going to be able to tell.
I am so sorry you are dealing with this. I don't mean to hijack your post. Do you think it is a side effect? I looked up all three drugs (I did letrozole for 5 years) and there is no mention of the ones you are having. Bone or nerves? It seems neurological. It sounds unpleasant and I hope a doctor or pharmacist can help. Do you go on breastcancer.org?
I will see my Oncologist next week. I really hope it is just a side effect. I actually came across post where I see complaints of scalp tenderness.
I had a CT scan after my biopsy and the cancer spread to my left lymphnode, clavicle,
and innumerable spots on lungs. That is how I was diagnosed Stage 4 (De Novo).
Did you have surgery? Which medication are you on?
I had two mastectomies and did 5 years letrozole. I am 10 years out. My cancer was grade 3, lymphovascular invasion but low Oncotype. So sorry you are starting out this way. Probably a side effect! There may be meds to help. Or creams etc.
@windyshores I remember you mentioned about having an ultrasound for a cyst you found in your breast. Did you get the result. I hope everything is ok.
It's okay. The tech and doctor were very thorough and kind. Spent a lot of time examining it and talking to me.
How thoughtful of you @myoga!
Putting cancer back on the back burner, gratefully.
Did you find out the reasons? I have those exact symptoms on my head in the exact spots and I am on Lateozole and Lupron.
@claudiaovando1 Not yet. I will be seeing my Oncologist soon and will mention it to her. How long do you have your symptoms? What meds you take ?
The only thing is that I noticed sensitivity while I was doing radiation. I am 1A BC ER positive, HERs negative. Therefore I only did Lumpectomy, 20 sessions of radiation and then Lupron and Latrozole. Nothing else. I did noticed sensitivity in one little part of my scalp two weeks in radiation, then a month later I started on Lupron then Letrozole, the sensation that you describe on the spots that you described I have felt that, but I though it was due to radiation. Now the spot I felt during radiation was more to my right, now I feel that exactly sensation you feel on those spots that you feel. Mine is on and off. I did an appointment with the dermatologist which I will see tomorrow because I though that maybe radiation cause me that skin reaction. I am just trying to guess what it is and now that I see your post you are describing exactly what I feel. I really don't know.
I wonder is it not a side effect of Letrozole. I was doing so well on Letrozole, but this cycle is really kicking my behind. Most of my side effects started in the last 3 weeks. Started off with tight neck muscles and slowly gotten worse to the point where my neck and back of head was warm to touch. Now there is the burning pain and just strange sensation (feels like neuropathy to me).
All the best with your appointment. Please keep me posted.
I will keep you posted. But, overall when I first started on Lupron and Letrozole the first two months were good, after the 3rd month. I feel all kinds of things with these medications. Constipation is awful to the point that I am having a colonoscopy next week to ensure is nothing else.
