Colleen: Just wanted you to know I found the place to control what e-mails I get and have adjusted the settings as well as the forums and people I've been connected to for one reason or other. Let's see how this goes now. Sorry for not looking around for self-help with "too much" before asking you for help.
No problem Cahnny. As I mentioned, we are in the process of changing the emails members get to tailor them better, sending email relevant to their interests. I would like to reach out to you by private message to discuss your experience with the site to help inform these changes. Would you be willing to discuss?
For anyone reading this discussion here is how you can set your email notification preferences
You can control how many emails you receive by editing your Account Settings here: https://connect.mayoclinic.org/account.
Here are instructions how to set your preferences https://connect.mayoclinic.org/get-started-on-connect/#how-to-set-preferences
I recommend checking the box that says “ONLY INCLUDE THE SPECIFIC THREADS AND GROUPS I AM FOLLOWING IN MY DIGEST.” Then your digest emails will be specific to your activity and not include other updates from across Connect.
I hope members will keep the "when someone @mentions me in a post" ticked as the moderators use the @mention feature to bring you into a discussion relevant to your experience. This is what Connect is all about, helping to connect people to help others.
Colleen you just sent me 5 of the same messages again - just like last time - thought you might like to know!!
Trouble43443, I appreciate your reporting the issue. I did post 5 separate messages to this discussion in a short period of time (about an hour ago), but they were different messages addressing specific questions. Did you receive 5 different messages or 5 identical messages? If identical, then I'll get IT Support to investigate.
Did anyone else experience receiving multiple copies of the exact same message?
If I can help with feedback, feel free to ask.
Just wanted to give you an example of non related e-mails. I just checked my e-mail and there's a notice about a member by the name of clemlaa who commented on a book she read about diet in a forum titled Specific Carbohydrate Diet. News to me. I've never been to that discussion, I've never exchanged posts with a clemlaa...basically it's just something out of the blue for no reason I can surmise. Found it especially surprising as I went into my settings yesterday and pretty much unfollowed everything. Thought I'd try just manually going in and checking forums at my leisure instead of being swamped with too much to have to deal with on a constant basis.
Good example Cahnny. This was a message you were @mentioned in. We were pointing Clemlaa to your post about Squatty Potty, thinking that it would be beneficial for her. You received a notification that you're mentioned for 2 reasons:
1. We don't want to talk about you with you knowing about it 🙂
2. Should you wish to join or add something to the discussion, this brings you directly to it. No obligation to join if it doesn't relate to your experience.
I'm sending you a private message now, so that we can schedule a meeting to discuss. I look forward to your feedback.
Thanks for helping me Colleen. I need all the help I can get and thank you Cahnny for the nice write up on squatty potty.
Colleen: As much as I think this website could be very helpful at times, I'm finding it a little too much unless there's a way to tame it down. You and others have "tagged" a bunch of people and discussions for me. I understand that it's in an effort to be very helpful and I REALLY DO appreciate your dedication to this and to everyone here BUT.....
Every time I check my e-mail, the box is flooded with replies and likes. So many "replies" have nothing to do with any of my issues or comments or interests at this time but rather refers to something someone who was tagged for me said in a completely unrelated forum. Although, being someone with lots of questions and medical issues of my own to deal with, I am sympathetic to others who are looking for the same kind of support. It's just that I don't have the time to check all the e-mail posts from conversations that, in no way, pertain to my issues. Since e-mails don't give enough information in the header to determine whether or not the comment is related to me in any way, I have to open each and every e-mail. Just too much.
Is there a way to trim e-mails sent to ME down to ones that actually have something to do with my issues? In 8 hours almost 20 e-mails were sent to me. I seem to get that many or more every time I check my e-mail which is quite a few times a day. Just way too much.
