Is hrt a good option after Evenity
I am a 76 year old woman. Menopausal at 38. Took some hrt 20 years ago. I am going to begin estrogen and testosterone pellets with a functional medicine provider. There may already be a discussion site for:
Discussion of the Women's health initiative study and what we are learning.
Fear of hrt linked with this flawed study
Can robust hrt act in place of prolia post Evenity.

Thank you. I do not consider it to be a simple choice and I think that your
points of concern are important.
i agree. One top osteoporosis specialist informed me that HRT must be started in the first five years after menopause
@elisabeth007 did the OP specialist tell you why HRT must be started within 5 years of menopause?
I have seen 10 years but I am not concerned with that. Unless someone can show some reliable research that is not connected with the flawed women's health initiative study I am more concerned with quality of life not quantity.
The osteoporosis specialist who prescribed low dose HRT for me recently when I was about 10 years post menopause said the 10 year cutoff was not hard and fast.
So far so good for me. I think I'm sleeping a bit better which is a big win. I'm doing a .05 mg bioidentical generic estradiol patch, plus micronized progesterone. It costs next to nothing.
To clarify, this is my first op drug, not post Evenity or other drug. It's my hope that together with lots of exercise and diet I'll keep the bone I have.
Hi @sonodeka it's great to hear that you are able to start HRT. The cut off is a very general guideline - my understanding. If initiated within 6 years after menopause, HRT provides cardiovascular benefits. Initiating hrt within 10years of menopause was what the studies had shown to be relative safe. I've had second opinions from cardiologist as well as obgyn, and were told the risks vs benefits are very individualized hence we need to be evaluated thoroughly by our physicians.
Could you share what your Dxa reading or your frax risk? Does your doctor monitor your blood estradiol level or bone markers for dosing? Thanks a lot!
Hi mayblin. My dexas are not bad, and my frax score is low. None the less the diagnosis rocked my world. The doc was happy for me to do nothing until things worsened, but I'd like to stem the loss so asked for hrt. Fingers crossed. My dexas for spine , neck and hip: -2.6, -1.6, -1.4.
Frax is 8% for spine. I'm 63.
She prescribed the therapeutic, low dose for me, without checking hormone levels. She is going to make adjustments based on my response, which has been unnoticeable to minimal so far, 2 weeks in. I have initial bone markers, which she deemed normal, and she has all my extensive blood results, which are also good. I'm lucky to be healthy, except this creeping bone loss... I have a follow up with her in 5 months. I'll see what she suggests then.
I was also rushing to start hrt while I was still, if barely, in the 10 year window, for my peace of mind. As I said earlier though, this particular doctor didn't view that time-frame as hard and fast.
It’s been a lot longer for me but my cardiologist felt HRT would help sustain my bones and also provide the necessary boost for what I’m lacking. I just had some bloodwork done and hoping to see how my markers look. Went off Tymlos in June and will begin Evenity in Oct. a bit of a drug holiday but I’m traveling so don’t have a choice.
