Can Reclast be Lowered dose?
I will be getting Reclast very soon as I am a Gastric Bypass Patient and I need to relay off of 1 Prolia. My body is very sensitive to a lot of meds put into it. I asked my Dr to give me Half Dose Reclast to see how my body will respond. He said the only way he will do it is if he sees it in Black and White, otherwise it is fraud. Does anyone have any info on lower dose? Please I’m so worried.I should have had Reclast on Aug 12th. I’m overdue for because my CTX is only 89. Hope someone has any information on lower dose or proof. Thanks a Million 😊

@debis67 what did your doctor mean by needing to see it in "black and white"?
You tolerated Prolia and may very well tolerate Reclast. Hydrate well, ask for an hour long infusion, take tylenol. You can expect fluish symptoms the first time and it goes away.
I believe it is probably administratively and financially difficult for the medical system to do partial doses, since that requires more frequent infusions. That is probably the reason for the 5mg once a year- otherwise all the patients doing Reclast would be doing infusions every three months and what happens to cancer patients? Just thinking "out loud."
I feel badly for mentioning partial doses to be honest. My doctor insisted on test dosing because of my kidney disease and atrial fibrillation. One doctor - and the infusion nurse- did tell me half doses aren't all that unusual so maybe you could try a different doctor.
No I did not tolerate Prolia well. I had many side effects and One landed me in the ER giving me Mega dose of steroids. I’m still having problems and it’s 7 months since I had my first one. My body is very sensitive to meds.
I guess he means by Black and white probably proof that you can lower the dose.
Please read the attached articles. (or at least look at the graphs contained in them.)

@normahorn there have been posts elswehere here on the forum on the effectiveness of quite low doses, a regimen different from mine since I am going in every three months. I had already changed my appointment to go in earlier to share that info with my doctor and ask his opinion- in the hope of doing only 2mg for the year! Again I get more cooperation due to health issues. I did read that the 5mg dose is standardized regardless of personal needs and given once a year basically for the convenience and compliance of patients and probably less stress on the medical system.
I do think infusion resources, if limited, need to go to cancer patients.
@debis67 your reaction to Prolia should be concerning to the doctor! Can you get a second opinion?
It seems that finding that "black and white" proof should be the doctor's job but there have been a few posts with studies on this here on the forum and @normahorn just provided two.
Hope you can get a half dose! So sorry to hear your awful experience on Prolia.
