Unexplained mild pain and sensations in the female genital area
I am a 57 year old female. I have been experiencing an unwanted sensation/mild pain in the genital area. I also experience restlessness on my feet. This normally happens when I am sitting or lying down relaxing. I have Type II diabetes for almost 20 years. Six years ago I underwent 2 consecutive surgeries for disc herniation and then underwent months of treatment for Osteomyelitis due to the last surgery.
Can my symptoms be diabetic neuropathy?

I am a 55 year old female with idiopathic small fiber neuropathy and spinal stenosis/degenerative disc disease and osteoarthritis. I’ve had cervical and lumbar decompression surgeries.
Have you seen a neurologist and been tested for small fiber neuropathy with a skin punch biopsy? They usually take samples of tissue at upper thigh, calf or ankle. Managing your diabetes is the best thing you could do to prevent the worsening of your neurological symptoms.
Have you had extensive bloodwork done for neuropathy to see if you are deficient or at toxic levels of vitamins? Have you had full iron and thyroid panels done? Have you been tested for viruses that stay dormant in your body but affect your central/peripheral nervous when reactivated (like Epstein Barr/mononucleosis, Herpes simplex, chickenpox/Shingles, etc.). Did you have the COVID virus or any reaction to the mRNA injections?
It is possible that your surgery in your spine impacted a nerve that inner area your groin/legs. Have you had updated MRIs of your spine post surgery? You may want a neurologist to do EMG/Nerve conduction studies to check lower limb large nerve fiber health.
Good luck getting help and answers.

Thank you so much for your detailed response. I haven't done any of the things that you noted except for one. I visited my dr 3 years ago because of these symptoms, and he did blood work that showed that I had the Herpes simplex virus in the past. He prescribed a pill to take when these feelings flare up, but it hasn't really worked.
I will definitely revisit my doctor and request all the tests that you mentioned. There are a lot of information you mentioned that can determine the reason for my symptoms. I feel very optimistic now. Thank you so much for taking the time to respond to me. Greatly appreciate it.
Carleena, I had one of the symptoms you described (mild pain in the genital area) and it definitely seemed nerve related. At the time I was undergoing chemotherapy for b/c. My doctor prescribed Lidocaine and Prilocaine Cream and it make a big difference. Just thought I'd pass that along.
I have the same symptoms and take pramipexole for RLS, nothing else works. In my case the genital discomfort comes with the RLS. There is a recognized and very distressing condition called RGS, restless genital syndrome which I was so reluctant to discuss and found my Neurologist was not familiar with. Pramipexole takes care of both. Don't suffer with this very real condition, deal with it.
