sew hiatal hernia closed?

Someone just told me that about ten years ago a surgeon in Michigan sewed her hiatal hernia so that the opening was normal sized. She said before the surgery she would regurgitate several times during a meal, and afterwards she was fine, and ate whatever she wanted.

She could not tell me the name of the procedure nor of the doctor.

Has anyone else have experience with this surgery? I had never heard of it before.
