Being strung along by dr

Posted by tjjordan1 @tjjordan1, Aug 31 3:33am

I have a Dr who I've seen and he ordered about 15 tests. I have chronic spine, neck and back pain. The last test was over a month ago. No response whatsoever. When I contacted them, they said be patient. I've been patient over the past 6 months enduring all these tests. Last time I spoke with the Dr., I thought he was going to help. He's NOT experiencing the pain, so be patience, seems incredibly uncaring. Give me a appt., tell me move on, something. I'm just wondering how long do I endure being patient. I just want the test result, or do I HAVE to move on ??

I understand totally. In a normal world I would say move on. But medicine is no longer normal. Moving doctors will probably get you another "professional" that will care just as little as this one does. I have extreme lower back and leg pain, the MRI showed moderate damage throughout. I'm a retired nurse and I can read reports. But the Medical Assistant called me an told me I have a little arthritis. No further treatment needed. So, the fact that I cannot sit for more than 20 minutes in one spot doesn't matter. That at times I walk like Quasimodo is all good. There is no waking moment that I do not have pain. But according to them no further action is needed unless I want opioids. That they can help me with. I truly hope you can find a better experience.

I have MS, found that GABA pathway is on dendrite, so to stop spasms, I take gaba. Not gabapentin, GABA from health food store. It releases spasms. I take as needed, to release spasms, if I take too much I feel tired so I counteract with activity which uses the gaba. I started at 200mg and it unfroze my ptsd feeling brain thing I felt emotional. I take over 3000mg a day to move my hands legs etc. I have met others doing something similar, But for pain.
It is used in near beer in Britain. It's tested on pets for years.
Do research, but is what hospital uses to release muscle spasms in ideal.
If you look it up, you will see that taking gaba by mouth, a larger dose is required.
I have a theory that the reason taking oral GABA increases brain gaba, has to do with the body prioritizing flight or flight large muscle movement ie in the legs. Taking gaba would increase body gaba, leaving more in the brain, as it's made on dendrites.
That's my theory, as I lose fine motor hand and arm control as my first sign of low gaba .
Maybe there's a feed about pain and gaba, I happened yo meet someone taking my same dose but for severe back pain.
Note that arthritis is also autoimmune, and may be a similar mechanism as MS which they claim causation by rx to mono virus present in 90% of population if you catch my drift.

I totally understand the quasimodo thing, because I deal with that often, probably different mechanisms but it still sucks. Good luck

I'm sorry! It seems like healthcare is always a referral. Meanwhile, no one helps and then you get referred again. Vicious circle that never seems to actually get solved

I'm beginning to think that sometimes you will just have to live with the pain. I'm seeing my 8th doctor who is "Mayo trained" but have yet to get any relief. When you get to a certain age, it can be difficult to get to places like Mayo. That 4 hour drive seems too much although we both drive and have serviceable vehicles. We have no family whatsoever so we are in a bind unless we can hire someone to drive us. That will be difficult since it will be an overnight trip.

Even if you can get there, it MAY not be different there either. Worth trying, but...... they are not perfect either

Which Mayo location are you trying to get an appointment at? I have a friend whose doctor requested a consultation for her. She had a consultation appointment within 2 weeks. This was at the Rochester location.

Yeah Florida is a whole different ball game. Their waiting list is 2 years long.

Is there a portal where you could get your test results?

Yes, but part of it is just not understandable, ty !

Recently I concluded a stay in the hospital where the attending physician, who is treats chronic pain blast her piers as more interested in cookbook medicine with the only real result is to make more money instead of providing real solutions to resolve chronic pain. She contacted my GP to provide her advice on the medications, etc. to treat my chronic pain. I have an appointment with him in a few days to review my treatment options.

Do you have a friend who's a nurse, or a pharmacist who knows you? They should be able to help you understand the test results

Do you know if there is a patient portal? You could ask and if there is sign up and view your results. At least you could see that the results are documented and then when you have a follow up with your doctor you can discuss your test results.
