Chris@santosha, @hillsboro, I hate taking meds and when my neuro suggested I take an antidepressant with the increasing depression, I saw the psychiatrist several times before I even considered it. Chris and I have talked about this before. I SO hate pills. I have just gotten to the point of despair lately and agreed it might be time. I don’t have much faith in them and the thought of being sedated or addicted in any way is not my thing. So I may get a prescription but I assure you I will thoroughly research myself before I would consider opening the bottle!

Before I retired I was a clinical social worker in private practice. I saw up close how much good antidepressants can do for people. A lot of it is tinker, tinker, tinker - meaning finding the right med at the right dose. I’d be on one in a heartbeat if they didn’t give me seizures. My strategy for any of the people I hire - lawyers, accounts, doctors- is to find someone you trust. Work to make a good relationship with them and then you will be more likely to trust their med recommendations. I think it’s important to work on my role as a patient to make the doctor/patient relationship work. We need to be equal members of the treatment team. This takes learning to trust you gut and work with those you trust!
