I have post-herpetic neuralgia/trigeminal nerve damage. Scalp/forehead/eye/side of nose shingles 12 years ago. Intense itching around eye/scalp mostly at night. My routine helps a lot, but sometimes itching is unbearable & my eye is often inflamed/itching. I've taken gabapentin twice daily for 11 years and used ice packs to sleep at night. I use a compound cream daily on eyelid. I also take Hydroxyzine HCL at night for intense itching. The entire area is still irritated after 12 years. In spite of everything, I have to be extremely careful to not touch area where the blisters were because it will "set off" intensive Crazy itching. All of my drugs were prescribed by my neurologist except the compound cream. That I got from an anesthesiologist/pain specialist. If you'd like the cream ingredients & dosages, let me know.

Sure the cream compounds might b something for me to add to my daily regimen

My case is similar to yours. I developed trigeminal neuralgia after a case of shingles on the scalp and face (including eye) four months ago. I was having agonizing attacks of pain in my eye and scalp until the dr increased the dosage of gabapentin to 1800mg a day. The literature says the pain is the worst pain known to humanity. I concur. When it hit I fell to my knees screaming and crying. It felt like someone was pressing a hot iron against my face and scalp. Though the gabapentin stopped those attacks, the opthalmic part of the trigeminal nerve is still active and it flares several times a day where it feels like it is moving in my scalp. Thankfully these flares are painless. I also have that intense, almost unbearable itching of my lower eyelid and the part between my eyebrow and eyelid is very painful to the touch and sometimes gets red hot. I will look into the things you have mentioned that help you and thank you! I only have the gabapentin and it looks like it may be a long haul.
