So glad you're getting back to working out! I feel that exercise has saved my sanity, hell, my life, actually, mentally, physically and emotionally.
What a drag PMR has been! Haven't worked out since Jan '24, was doing step aerobics and strengthening with weights on alternate days. Used to run, very high intensity and high impact aerobics in classes and videos as well. Miss those days when my face was purple afterwards!
Anyway, in the last couple months have begun walking for 1/2 hr every other day and a little strengthening, mainly bridges for my osteo spine, but working in other stuff slowly. Problem is my upper arms and rot cuffs are still so very sore and of course, they get better, then flare if I dare do anything they don't like. Frustration is putting it mildly.
Having said all that, I do not take Pred. Only Tylenol. Can't tolerate pred. Docs are not convinced I have pmr but I certainly am unless there is some other disorder that would cause this bi-lateral pain. Lower body is much better, but still flares. Started in my thighs and I thought it was a response to stepping up my thing workout. But when it crept into my upper arms and shoulders, I started researching.
At any rate, all this to ask what intensive cardio are you doing?
LOL!
Best to you tuckerp, think we've "chatted" in the past.

As much as I hate Pred I have to admit it works, such a shame you can not take it. Today I swam in the pool, lane to myself which was brilliant, then quickly put a pair of shorts over swimsuit, slipped trainers on and got up the stairs as fast as I could to the gym. Did a decent row and managed to get heart rate up to 154. Have been struggling getting a decent heart rate as Pred makes this difficult for me. My resting heart rate was 43 the other day any lower and I will have to tell the Dr I guess. Yesterday I did interval training on the evil SkiErg, 200 metre then on to the air bike for 2 minutes, back on SkiErg etc, I have managed 10 lots so far. Tomorrow is weight training and Friday a baby Triathlon. I used to get exhausted by 1pm but now that happens around 3pm. I do very short runs early mornings but more a shuffle now, triple bionic and last joint says hello now and then but it will have to wait until next year if I can get off Pred without any problems. I understand your frustration at not being able to still do the things you love so you have to find what you can do and not dwell on things you can’t. If your lower body is not complaining to much get on a spin bike or an air bike. Pretty sure the devil uses one of those when munching on his tic tacs ( Pred). Hope it all improves for you.
