Non-alcoholic fatty liver-share your home remedies?
I'm a 74 year old female, 53 year Crohn's patient, treated heavily with steriods(prednisone) for 10 years early on. Now stable with Imuran.
2019 diagnosed with fatty liver, but given no treatment or plan of action. Recent abdominal pain, fatigue led to fibro scan and extensive abdominal ultra sound with results described as abnormal. Follow-up to have results explained next week.
In the meantime, have ordered a Mediterranean Diet Cookbook. Also have heard Milk Thistle helpful as a detox. Anyone have thoughts?

Milk thistle is a nice supplement to help maintain a healthy liver, but it is probably not going to “detox” your liver. The Med diet is a good step. You may want to reduce the amount of fat you consume as well.
Drink plenty of water. You also want to get as much exercise as is physically possible for you. Things like walking and chair yoga might be good places to start, depending upon your physical capabilities.
I had fatty liver as well for a while. I drank lots of water. Stopped taking Tylenol. And lost weight. I was taking two to three times a day for pain. Now fatty liver is gone! Good luck to you. Also ask your dr what other things you can do? If need be you can also get referred to nephrologist.
Thanks for the great advice. I just learned today that FDA has approved Rezdiffra (Resmetirom) for the treatment of NASH. The hurdle, of course, will be price which is around $4,000/mo
It was so promising in trials, FDA fast-tracked approval.
I had NAFLD I lost weight increased water intake and exercise and no longer have it.
I had it years ago and stopped taking Acetaminophen and started drinking dandelion tea for a couple of months which is good for detoxing the liver.
It went away.
I was taking too much Acetaminophen to control migraines.
SA Wilson organic coffee enemas. I was diagnosed with NAFLD in 2015. I began doing these enemas once a week, then built up to once a day. I continued for years. In 2020, I had another liver scan and my liver was back to normal. I did mess up. I didn't take probiotics during this which lead to other gastro issues. Research exactly how to prepare the enemas. It is very specific such as using all stainless steel pots and strainers and boiling times.
Same here. Stopped taking Acetaminophen. I was taking too much!

Greetings, I am 36 years old and have recently been diagnosed with NAFLD, a condition I have apparently endured for years. Right now, I am experiencing twitching every 5 seconds, and my legs are severely swollen, especially my ankles, to the point where I can press them in until they feel soft. Since March 19th, 2025, I have been living out of my truck because my wife foolishly obtained an order of protection against me. Despite my warnings over our 12 years of marriage not to trust the police, she did so anyway. She believed that deceiving them about an incident where I supposedly threw a cat can at her, which caused a scratch, would be enough to alert them. Instead, they arrived and arrested me. I spent 4 days in jail, and upon my release, I collapsed while walking down the side street. My NAFLD had deteriorated to the extent that I was rushed to the hospital, where I also discovered that I have liver failure. I had gastric bypass surgery in 2007 when I weighed 650 lbs, and I currently weigh 187 lbs (with a significant portion of that being excess skin). Nevertheless, I spent nearly 2 weeks in the hospital, and embarrassingly, I had to be escorted home by the police after waiting for 18 hours, just 4 blocks away, for them to finish their non-emergency calls since my truck and belongings were there. I lost my job of 5 years, and all my belongings prevent me from reclining my seat, causing my legs to be cramped for months. Lastly, the liver disease is attributed to severe malnutrition due to a severed vagal nerve from an emergency surgery for bowel perforation/intestinal perforation in 2008. With nothing more to add, I just need assistance as it is very challenging to manage this situation from a truck. I simply need help or advice on how to stop the twitching since it is now illegal for me to contact my wife, and leaving my truck behind will result in it being towed. Thank you everyone! I believe in all of you to keep up the fight!
