Being strung along by dr

Posted by tjjordan1 @tjjordan1, Aug 31 3:33am

I have a Dr who I've seen and he ordered about 15 tests. I have chronic spine, neck and back pain. The last test was over a month ago. No response whatsoever. When I contacted them, they said be patient. I've been patient over the past 6 months enduring all these tests. Last time I spoke with the Dr., I thought he was going to help. He's NOT experiencing the pain, so be patience, seems incredibly uncaring. Give me a appt., tell me move on, something. I'm just wondering how long do I endure being patient. I just want the test result, or do I HAVE to move on ??

I am concerned for you and your doctor profiting from this so called treatment plan. I say time to move on. I work with my providers on evidence based treatment plan but I need data and info to do so. Lifestyle changes are important too.

Thank you. I wished I could. There are very few places or Dr's that do this. This Dr at a famous place with a M, last time I saw him saying do preop etc... I had another test, then I haven't hear a thing except be patient when I contacted thru a portal, no where to go.incredibly frustrating

I understand totally. In a normal world I would say move on. But medicine is no longer normal. Moving doctors will probably get you another "professional" that will care just as little as this one does. I have extreme lower back and leg pain, the MRI showed moderate damage throughout. I'm a retired nurse and I can read reports. But the Medical Assistant called me an told me I have a little arthritis. No further treatment needed. So, the fact that I cannot sit for more than 20 minutes in one spot doesn't matter. That at times I walk like Quasimodo is all good. There is no waking moment that I do not have pain. But according to them no further action is needed unless I want opioids. That they can help me with. I truly hope you can find a better experience.

Wow! You said, "But according to them no further action is needed unless I want opioids." Many of the people on the Chronic Pain group would be beating your door down to get the name of that doctor. You, however, want a solution, not to mask it.
I have been there, with spinal arthritis and stenosis, as well as arthritis just about everywhere, a lung disease, and a heightened inflammatory response to...everything. I was referred to a Pain Management Program (outpatient, run by my clinical system.) There, I was thoroughly evaluated, given just enough non-opioid medication to take the edge off the pain, and referred for serious PT by a "wizard" who can read my body and help deal with what is going on. In addition, I was taught how to use meditation, guided imagery and other techniques to work through the pain, got some help with sleep issues, a little counseling, and basically got my life back.
Is there anything like that available to you? If not, Mayo offers in-patient programs.

If you don’t have access to your lab results just go back to lab you had them drawn and get a copy of the results

Sorry. Many Dr's, surgeons, pts etc. I am kind of far as I can go on this issue. If this Dr, place, doesn't help, I'm most likely going to have to go to another state. That is NOT a great option for me.

I always go to the patient portal for my doctor and I always check the lab patient portal after I have any tests, so I know what the doctor is going to say before I see him.

I know what it says basically. I just don't know what I can do to make the Dr want to help me. Not just any Dr can.

Thank you ! Your situations sounds much like the battle I've been battering for years. I finally was diagnosed last year, and now can't get anyone to help. Too many of these Dr's care about themselves, than helping people. I think they take the HYPOCRITE oath. Just don't seem to care much about people. I thought where I finally got to was finally the right place. Maybe the search is not over ??? I'm so sorry for you too. It's exhausting trying to get someone to help. If you find one right one, the next 3 steps trip you up, and your just more tired and frustrated. Good luck ! I hope you will find the right solution, and right people go help you feel better.

It sounds as if the Doc hasn"t a clue about how to help U. I was diagnosed by a neurologist with progressive neutopathy and diabetess and extreme muscle weakness.. When I inquired about remedies he offerred PT. When I said "U have 8 neurologists here each with a different specialty. Can't one of then help me" the answer was "No". So perhaps what you see as "uncaring" is actually inability. I found that PT and exercising in a pool was somewhat helpful to me.

I agree… I have multiple intertwined chronic conditions, and I’ve gotten by far the most traction from PT and many of them understand better than a neurologist or other physician would about the neurological pain process…and how to turn down those signals. Of course it can be tricky to find the best fit PT, but finding the right person or team has been game-changing for me.
