Annual Reclast delayed 3 weeks; is this a problem?
My annual Reclast infusion was delayed about 3 weeks (multiple factors). Is this an issue with the timing and the effects? Thank you!

debbied28, the benefit from the first injection will extend for over three years. The physician who ran the clinical trials almost never repeats the injection at one year but waits for two because the effects are equal.
It's a safe bet that the delay will be inconsequential either in the interum or in the effectiveness.
The percentage change in lumbar bmd after a year of cessation from Reclast is a net positive.

I thought this infusion was annually unless it needed to be performed sooner. Is that not correct?
dna41, for treatment of osteoporosis the infusion is once a year, or prevention of osteoporosis once every two years according to package insert guidelines. I'm not aware of guidelines or data for retreatment within the year, though I've heard of patient reportage of the possibility.
The physician I referred to in the earlier post said he rarely follows the guidelines in his practice.
You have fracture prevention for years because the bisphosphonate stays attached to the bone. All the bisphosphonates do risidronate for the least number of years zolendronate the greatest number of years.
Debbie, that is definitely not a problem. There is nothing magic about that 1 year schedule with Reclast and no quick loss of bone if you delay the infusion, not at all. The drug to watch that about is Prolia. But Reclast - no worries.
That is really confusing to me. After I started Reclast, my CTX went up to 343. I thought a high CTX score was not a good thing. It was not high when I came off Prolia.
I had 1 Prolia back on February 12th. I should have gotten Reclast on Aug 12 but my CTX is only 89. I will be getting it checked again Sept 16. It needs to get to 150-200 before I can get Reclast.
My CTX was 74 when I got Reclast.
