CT scan before radiation

Posted by cheriekhan @cheriekhan, Aug 28 10:08am

Dr ordered a CT scan prior to Brachytherapy and IGMRT radiation. My partner has been on ADT meds for 3 months. Wanted to know how to read the results below.
Impression:
Since prior studies as above, decreased pelvic lymphadenopathy
Abdominopelvic nodes: Decreased right posterior region
External iliac adenopathy .8x.7cm previously 2.0 x1.7. Decreased left obturator lymph node .8 x .5 cm, previously .9x.7cm.Decreased left iliac bifurcation lymph node 0.5 x 0.5 cm previously 0.9 x 0.9 cm and decreased left common iliac adenopathy 1.0 x 0.7 cm and previously 1.5 x 1.2 cm.

Also since he will be getting Brachytherapy and 25 rounds of IGMRT radiation with no spacer gel concerned about damage to the bladder and long term side effects. Wanted to hear from others who have undergone both.

Most likely he got a PSMA pet scan three months ago,. That’s pretty much the standard for starting investigation and finding out where the metastasis are. Then, before radiation, you do an MRI to see what has happened with ADT.

It looks like the ADT has shrunk all of his metastasis, something they normally like to do before doing radiation. Sounds like normal procedure.

Hi cheriekhan- Started 6 mos orgovyx a week prior to single session HDR brachytherapy, including marker and barrigel placement in same procedure. 25 sessions of proton therapy began few weeks later. The brachy was a long day to be sure, and recovery was quick; kept exercising each day. Fatigue was sporadic, and should be expected from both ADT & radiation. Daily physical activity helped a great deal.

It was helpful to me to focus on what I could control - education, attitude. As an example, learned men need to arrive for prostate radiation treatment w an empty stomach & (comfortably) full bladder. Made corresponding dietary changes.
From my view, PCa education is imperative as is confidence in your medical team & chosen treatment plan. Good luck on your journey; there’s tremendous support here.

Great advice that I can use for my upcoming radiation tx. Debated about eating lunch before or after but you certainly cleared that up for me - thanks!
