Stage 3a, Group 9, just discovered. Dr. gave options but have question

Posted by chipe @chipe, Aug 8 9:45am

So, I went from happily living a "normal" life, being on finasteride and tamsulosin to having Stage 3a, Group 5, Gleason 6, 8, and 9 in a year. Yikes. Already in fatty tissue outside of the prostate, so he scheduled me for a PET scan on the 19th. He was kind of down when talking to my wife and me and said "you have years, not months" etc.
He laid out two plans for me: 1. if not metastasized have RP and radiation, maybe chemo. If metastisized get hormone therapy, radiation, and chemo.

So, my question is: even if it has metastasized, why would they not remove the prostate to get rid of the "source?"
Thanks!

@chipe

Thank you for this. The doc also mentioned Orgovyx as the treatment.
Again, thank you.

My personal experience with Orgovyx has also been positive. I switched after 2 1/2 years on Firmagon, and I don't miss the swelling, rashes, and 3 days of flu-like symptoms after every monthly injection into my abdomen.

I've had the same question I'm lucky am only 80 miles from Huntsman cancer center.
I'm 77 tested my psa every year my Doc just didn't know how to read it so now I have 9 5+4 metastasis form neck to bowls. I've had one yr on Nubeqa and luperon, had very bad reaction to dexatoxal, implants keep me out of MRI's now looking for surgery. So I'm trying to get an appointment in Huntsman center my oncologist has taken me off Nubeqa and luperon he says for a breather but I still hit the rec. center to swim 3 times a week and feel well most of the time, but I'd like to get this out of my system and then psam radeation.
Let me know if you get an answer on why.
Much luck on your journey.
Bob
