What help is available for very slow motility?

@jlstjohn

I also have slow colonic motliity (as shown by Sitz marker test done without stopping my bowel regimen at the time) and a tortuous colon. I am on everything: Miralax, Motegrity, Senna, magnesium. I do a weekly Miralax home cleanse (255 grams Miralax in 64 ounces Gatorade). I add 3 tablets of bisacodyl at bedtime for extra help. I do a 500 ml home soap suds enema at least 5 days a week; the "soap" acts like an irritant and the volume of the enema helps initiate peristalsis. I often do it for symptoms relief (lower abdominal pressure, bloating). I usually have to use a bit of manual massage on my abdomen to help things come out. I just had a consult with surgery regarding an ostomy. I am not quite ready for that, I want to exhaust ALL of my options. Next up is a repeat with Physical Therapy for pelvic floor training (I also have issues with my anal sphincter muscles/pelvic floor muscles coordinating properly). I had gone through this 2 years ago and perhaps didn't take it seriously enough. My GI doctor is okay with all of my home therapies, but I would check with yours before initiating anything new as everyone is different. Best wishes.

Thank you for such an informative response. Lots of options I didn’t realize possible.

Sounds very familiar. I’m trying everything, even though Dr. says surgery is only option. Today I’m making an appt for acupuncture. Keep on, keeping on!!!!

jlstjohn, so very nice to meet someone who takes as much 💩💩meds/supplements as I do. 17 yrs, you would think those people called doctors could have found something that REALLY helped. But nope. My long term GI, basically fired me as his patient; probably because 3 months after he had me have a CT, to disprove 2 X-ray results that a small bowel partial obstruction was forming.... I was in the ER , via ambulance (it takes a lot to get me to use an ambulance or ER. But there I was with a nasal gastric tube , OUCH! and a partial forming. This will never ever happen to me again. That is why I keep my poop between very loose mush to diarrhea. The soap enema???? I have never heard of it. What kind of soap? I am praying with all my might, that a big part of my motility is due to my Hyperparathyroidism and elevated calcium. Longggg story. Elevated calcium levels can wreak havoc on all smooth muscles, the exact ones needed to expel 💩💩. If I don't have to cancel a 3rd time due to other health problems, I'm gonna have the surgery next month. I can't wait. Hoping it helps several other problems too. ShelleyW
