According to Dr Joe in a recent post on NTM-ir, soaking is not needed before sterilizing, nor is washing/rinsing in sterile water. Just wash & rinse in regular water, drop into the sterilizer, it takes care of the rest. Even quicker!

This will be a difficult habit for me to break. So what's the difference between cleaning and sterilization? Cleaning removes dirt, debris, impurities, etc while sterilization eliminates microorganisms, bacteria etc. Does this mean that sterilization both cleans and sterilizes? Playing devil's advocate here!

Sue, Dr. Joe's accepted method of sterilizing seems to too good to be true. Our fellow nebulizers seem to be trained and or guided through so many steps to squish every bug (bacteria) into oblivion. Now we're told, just wash and rinse it off and stick it in a sterilizer. Those "old" habits might be hard to break but I'm willing to try. Any others planning on stepping away from their gold standard methods of sterilizing? Would love to hear.
