@cent66 have you considered cannabis at bedtime. THC + CBD + CBN does me well.
The most that melatonin has ever done for me regardless of dosage, small or large, quick melt or delayed release, is to make me slightly tired. It does not help me get to sleep. My 1st issue to deal with is either, anxiety or running thoughts which are easily squished with 5 mg of lithium oraTate. Takes about an hour for me to notice the thoughts and anxiety are gone, or controllable, I have more Focus. The real issue is beyond that. Now that I'm relaxed, no running thoughts and tired, I just lay there not able to transition from tired to sleep. The only thing that has consitantly worked is Xanax. I try not to take it because of the addictive aspects of the drug. It takes about an hour to kick in or for me to go to sleep. I take about .5 mg. I get about 5 hours sleep. If I take 1 mg, I can get 8 to 9 hours but I have a 6-hour hangover after I get up. What I mean by hangover, I don't feel like myself until about 6 hours later. So I limit myself too .5mg. I'm getting ready to try picamilon, which is B3 and Gaba combine into one molecule as a supplement. Not the same as taking B3 and Gaba separately. What happens is the niacin/ B3 AIDS with transporting the molecule across the blood brain barrier. Once in the brain the molecule separates into niacin and Gaba. The hope is I have an under production of Gaba. It should only take a couple doses to find out if that's my real issue. Xanax works on Gaba so I'm assuming it's the right area but whether it's the right solution is the question. I've tried so many different natural products that have failed, this is pretty much my last resort before I see he sleep specialist in October. I tried many different things such as glycine 3 G. The source of glycine is collagen. I take enough collagen which contains 3 grams of glycine before bed. I figure that was a better source than the synthetic glycine. It seems to help a little but does not get me to sleep. I've also tried inositol which is formally known as vitamin B8. The list goes on CBD, B6, taurine so many different things, none of which get me from tired into a sleep state, except xanax.
