bmrus,
I had a hip replacement last year, but I knew that I had osteoporosis when I had it. I was already on Evenity.
The Evenity gave me significant improvements in spine and left hip. The right hip is no longer a concern as it is titanium. 🙂
After a year of Evenity, I went on Reclast. Neither of these drugs caused me any problems with side effects.
Everyone is different.
There is a lot of information on this site. Also, get Dr. Keith McCormick’s book
“ Great Bones”. Many of us here have read it. He also does consultations.
I take some of the supplements that he sells on his website. Do they help?
Who’s to say.
I believe my improvement was primarily due to Evenity as I had been taking supplements and exercising for many years and bones continued to worsen.
@bmrus you're very smart! I wish I'd researched prior to my infusions. I've had 2 now.. Mild side effects the 1st time but much worse this time. I notified my endocrinologist & she said "Reclast doesn't cause those symptoms." I'm done with the Reclast and done with that doc.
I do not know what you read about Reclast but I have had 5 Reclast infusions. I never experienced a side effect. The only problem with Reclast is that you can only do 5-6 infusions. My endo is now suggesting Prolia to me.
Don’t be afraid of Reclast. You HAVE to take something to keep your osteoporosis from getting worse and build strong bones.
@bmrus why are you inclined not to take the Reclast? Are your DEXA scores bad enough to get you an anabolic like Forteo or Tymlos, or a medication like Evenity? It is better to start with one of these unless your osteoporosis is very mild, in which case you could talk with an endocrinologist about whether you can try more holistic methods first or should do Reclast.
