Bone pain: Can anyone explain what cancer in the bones feels like?
Can anyone explain what cancer in the bones feels like? I was diagnosed w breast cancer last year so I'm on high alert w pains I feel. I have had pain in my left hip for weeks. Doesn't hurt when I touch or move but very uncomfortable when I lay down, even if I'm not laying on it. Thoughts?

@windyshores is a PET SCAN something you can tolerate? It’s not as detailed or specific as a normal CT but may help. It uses a radioactive glucose injection. I have tinnitus also but must have regular MRIs of my head to monitor things. Any loud noise only increases the tinnitus temporarily for me. Nothing permanent from the scans. It sounds like you have lots of reasons to have hip pain with the spinal and joint issues. Have you tried physical therapy for this pain?
I had an abdominal CT scan with oral contrast that was iodine (radioactive) and had a terrible reaction.
I just looked up the glucose injection Fluorodeoxyglucose and apparently it is okay for kidneys so I will look into that.
Spinal fractures don't affect hip. The pain at hip is far greater than other places and I expected more severe arthritis there, not "mild." Like I say, I tend not to be a worrier so I have not pushed for scans. I'll take care of the small hard lump first- probably a cyst
I had mild tinnitus and forgot about at an immersive museum musical performance. Tinnitus went way up. I was distressed but have accommodated to it. It does go up and down (leaf blower in next door yard for instance). I am nervous that it will increase permanently again but will of course so an MRI that is absolutely necessary. Neuro wants one of neck but asked if I would change what I was doing knowing results and I said no, no surgery yet, so he cancelled it!
We all do what we need to do, weighing tho options like you have. Medical issues change your priorities and only you know what that list is. Good luck.
@rom828 asked "What were your symptoms?"
Initially a pain between my middle spine and shoulder blade, mainly when I was walking. Then increasing trouble balancing, until I had to use a cane to keep from staggering sideways. When numbness started in my toes, I decided it was time to go straight to the ER instead of working with my family doctor (a maternity-leave replacement) and physiotherapist. 5 days after they admitted me I was paralysed from the ribs down.
All of this happened over 3-4 weeks.
@windyshores
Words like probably and likely concern me. Did you have that chest nodule biopsied? When I found the recurrent breast cancer on my chest wall it felt much like a marble — hard, immobile, painless, 1.2 cm.
@zebra yes it is a marble, hard, immobile but slightly painful in the area if I press it. I contacted oncology 10 days ago and again last Friday and will try again today. They told me the surgeon's office would call me and to get in touch if they didn't so I got in touch and still nothing. Leaving the portal for old-fashioned phone! Thanks for the encouragement.
Prayers for you.
I'll have an ultrasound in 2 weeks. Not worried. Thinking it's a cyst until it's not!
Glad you’re getting it checked out. I’ll think positive thoughts along with you. 😊
May God be with you!! ❤️
