eGFR 23 and kidney pain

Hello,
I’ve gotten this far without symptoms. Now experiencing kidney pain. No UTI. Wondering if there’s anything that can be done other than take Tylenol. Is it a sign of kidney infection? My eGFR in July was 23. Blood work follow up is usually every 3 months. I put a heating pad there last night, seemed to help. Do I ask for an appointment or understand this is part of the disease?

@mrainne How are you feeling this morning? Better, I hope!

Like @leslie2121 suggested, I would check with your doctor. Are you making sure to get enough fluids into you?

I checked with my nephrologist PA. We went through all possibilities. She did not think in was an infection. Thought either muscle pull or colon. Said often colon and kidney pain are hard to distinguish. But said go straight to ER with various symptoms, vomiting, extreme headache etc.

My husband and I tested positive for Covid yesterday!

Aside from your recent pain, how are you treating your condition?

Covid changes everything. My temp is 102.8. The original pain is gone, must have been backed up colon. I’m drinking like a fish. Eating small amounts of oatmeal, tuna. I was not prepared for this!
I drink approximately 60-70 oz of water daily. Low salt, exercise, mostly try to walk fast. The only pain reliever I take is Tylenol. My eGFR went from 60 in 2014 to 23 in 2024. Big drop. I think I’ll be going on the list for a transplant unless my sweet husband passes the tests and gives me one of his.

Best of luck with everything! It sounds like you are working very hard. I hope your DH is a match. Would you consider dialysis?

Are you taking any meds for the covid?

My dad had a recent decline in his numbers. He’s pretty limited, in that he has poor mobility and dementia. His doctor says we are going to monitor it.

Covid gone and infection gone after 2 rounds of antibiotics. All back to normal and my kidneys rebounded back to the stable GFR of 25. The ambulance and ED bill was shocking. Grateful for Medicare.
