Gabapentin and Cymbalta side effects

Posted by mike1941 @mike1941, Aug 4 11:34am

Has anyone experienced loss of appetite, depression, anxiety, dementia, increased pain and swelling in the lower abdominal area plus bloating when levels of Gabapentin- Cymbalta were increased to mitigate intercostal nerve and muscle damage. Thank you.

@kate2002 Not sure if you can help me but I have taken tramadol for years for severe back pain etc.. . Unfortunately my pcp left and I was given a new pcp who took me off tramadol (which worked for me) and is putting me on Cymbalta for pain. I am interested in your comments. I’ve thought about cannabis and I am aware of the no dairy etc. which is unfortunate because I love dairy. Thank you in advance if you can give me some insight into my recent dilemma with this new pcp. Irene5

Gabapentin seems to be my culprit not Cymbalta, relating to the bloating- tightness in my abdomen area and weird dreams not the Cymbalta.
Best wishes

STOP TAKING CYMBALTA!!!!!!!!!!!
Please watch these videos that are on You Tube. Its Dr. Phillip Getson at RSDSA conferences 5 years ago. It was like Dr. Getson was reading my medical chart. He stresses to get out of stressful relationships, NO GLUTEN, NO DAIRY, NO PROCESSED Foods, organic as you can. I developed CRPS in 1999 and it affects every inch of my body. I take Gabapentin at night only because it can wipe me out but without it my foot and leg burns so bad. Since 2020 I have done everything Dr. Getson said and I'm back to working full time. My pain is so much better and I have a life back. Also cannibus helps so much!!
Good luck,

Did you have surgery?

A Dr put me on Nortriptyline. The Side effects can be horrendous so i'm gonna go off of it. Has anyone ever been on that?

Yes, removal of upper right lobe , non small cell carcinoma - damaged intercostal nerve-muscle and fractured rib. Thus, reason for two medications to try and mitigate pain. Still have a lot of pain…3years.. Sad!

I take both cymbalta and gabapentin and have not had any of those side effects aside from bloating and weight gain.

Sorry, I am also having continued pain after decompression surgery on March 1 for long standing lumbar stenosis. The latest medication they prescribed is Nortriptyline, but I am afraid to take it after reading some of the interactions even with just ibuprofen.

The Dr's I have been to never tell me much what is causing my pain, except "the nerves are healing," which seems pretty vague to me. How did you find out you had intercostal nerve and muscle damage ? Can they see it on an MRI ?

Yes, from Cat scan and oncologist at MD Anderson… with the robotic surgery at USB Birmingham to remove lobe the inserted tube resulted in the damage- I am a very small person - 5 ft 1 in 103 lbs and small frame… they should have been more careful in my opinion!
