Lupron Treatment Duration: How long were you on it?

Posted by frankstags @frankstags, Jul 7, 2020

I have been diagnosed with Grade 3 prostate cancer with a 4 + 3 Gleason score of 7. This after having 2 PSA scores last year between 4 and 7. The cancer has not spread to the bones. I have received two Lupron injections 3 months apart and will complete 28 radiation treatments in the next couple of days. No surgery. I have tolerated the Lupron shots well with few but manageable side effects. I have an appointment to receive a third Lupron shot next month. My first PSA test after completing radiation won't be scheduled for 3 months. From researching Lupron, it appears that this is used for advanced stages of prostate cancer. From what I was led to believe, I was not advanced. My question: How long and how many Lupron shots might I need to go through? I will have this discussion with my urologist hopefully before proceeding with the next shot. Thanks for any information provided by the group.

Gleason 4+3 worse than 3+4. ADT helps shrink prostate before radiation.

Welcome, @pennyoverhill. Several members have talked about treatment with Abiraterone with prednisone like @mikesuess @ncoic @ringmastr1 @lag @lmacfive @joecontheroad.

How is your husband doing? Did he resume treatment?

I am not sure if I mentioned he was so dehydrated that the VA sent it to the hospital for fluids. He ended up having blood clots in both of his lungs. He had been off of Abi/predisone For a few days, but now it’s been three weeks. After four days in the hospital knee swelled up And they took two vials of fluid off of it three days later he had surgery to clean it out. I’m just wondering if it’s antibiotics that is making him so fatigued.

In May 2012, I had my first injection of Lupron with the biggest needle I have ever seen in my life. Today at my age of 70 I am still having Lupron injections. My PSA was 4.87 when diagnosed and my scores were all above 10. Cancer has never been in remission and only moderately controlled. I keep seeking

Had two injections of Lupron on the three month shot, starting radiation in two weeks, I have flu like symptoms horrible cough, insomnia, and hot flashing to name a few lol. They are telling me three years of this argh I have Gleason score of 9 high risk but no metastasis to bones. I think that you should get off it if your PSA numbers come down to normal

I'm 65 , have you done radiation?

Had close to 3 years Lupron concurennt with 45 days of radiation. PSA start was 12 , gleason 8. PSA stayed low for about 8-10 years then started rising but sometimes it was lower ( like a sawtooth ) . They took the low reading out of my chart to help calculate doubling time. Now my PSA is around 10 after a drop from 11. My testosterone has averaged about 200 units throughout the last 15 years and also have had 3 other cancers ( kidney, skin and now breast (surgery done and now on radiation ). Doc says to just do surveilance and no meds for prostate cancer.I declined another Lupron series.
