Extreme reaction to eating or drinking

Posted by szteff @szteff, Aug 2 9:13am

Not sure if anyone can help, but for the last three months, I have been experiencing vertigo and numbness in my hands and feet immediately on eating or drinking anything (even water). Its almost as though my body has a huge stress response and I have to lie down to recover. As a healthy and active 50 year-old, I have found the symptoms debilitating.
I've been checked numerous times for diabetes, heart problems, ENT checks. All blood tests have come back normal showing no deficiencies except for low sodium levels (which I've upped. )
Has anyone experienced anything similar? Any thoughts?

Have you had a cta of your stomach? Seen a gastroenterologist? I had one in er 8 months ago and they found I had Mals. Celiac artery compression. Definitely go see a gastroenterologist. Then they can do further testing. And may send you for cta of stomach. Good luck. They will figure it out and help you!🙏🏻😊

Yes see a good Gastroenterologist. Do colonoscopy and endoscopy.
I have so many digestive disorders 10 years . It’s honestly horrific.
Praying 🙏.

Have you considered POTS? It’s unusual for it to manifest later in life, but some people have symptoms that don’t become limiting until later in life. Or they have the symptoms for years and it just never gets diagnosed.

The autonomic nervous system has difficulty adjusting to maintain consistent bloodflow to the brain and upper extremities, so it’s most known for causing dizziness (or vertigo), nausea, etc. when changing positions suddenly. But another symptom is after eating, it can also cause dizziness because bloodflow gets redirected to the digestive system after eating. (I have POTS.)

Sometimes medications can cause this too though.

If that seems totally off the mark, then I agree with the others about seeing a gastroenterologist. Wishing you all the best.
