Pain in days following after getting catheter out
Had robotic surgery 2.5 weeks ago and got catheter out 8 days ago. Did the 3 days of antibiotics and felt pretty good the first two days following catheter removal but tip of penis has been very sore and not letting up. Have been avoiding acidic drinks/food for now.
Left a message with my surgeon yesterday but haven't heard back yet and wondering if anyone else has had this happen and how long it lasted? Mild redness on tip and no burning with urination or any obvious signs of infection...just pain on tip. Have been wearing loose-fitting sweats and not sure what else to do.

Of course it should be examined by your surgeon. But here's a thought. It might be "referred" pain from the area in the bladder which was operated on. When I had bladder stones (twice, several years before the prostate cancer), I would get pain at the tip of my penis from the stone rubbing on the inside of the bladder. The brain does not always have an exact map of internal anatomy when dealing with pain signals. An example: the shoulder tip pain some of us got after the laparoscopic prostatectomy. Caused by irritation of the diaphragm from the gas used to expand the abdominal cavity.
I agree it needs to be checked out by your doctor, but you might ask if there's an RN in the office. Sometimes they're easier to reach and if the RN has been there awhile they might be very familar with this issue. I'm no medical professional, but while I had the catheter I was told to use over-the-counter triple antibiotic gel on the tip (and catheter tube) to help with the soreness. It seemed to help me, and I continued it for a couple days after the catheter came out until the soreness went away. Best wishes on your recovery.
