I imagine you have tried many things to treat ulcer if gastrectomy is being considered. Bariatric surgery is a type of gastrectomy. Difference is for reason, bariatric surgery is for weight loss where gastrectomy is done due other medical reasons.

I had a ‎Gastric bypass (Roux-en-Y) so was left with a small pouch. It also included a long recovery time while everything healed. I actually developed a small ulcer in pouch few years after surgery, but it healed after medications.

This article from Cleveland Clinic has information on gastrectomy:

There are a couple discussions in Digestive Health on subject, though some of them were due to cancer, there experience may help.

Anyone familiar with a Gastrectomy (total stomach removal)?

I'm tagging @cyberkitty who had procedure few years ago due to bleeding ulcers and may be able to give advice.

Are you in the investigation phase or have surgery scheduled?

I had for Gerds and reflux for 25 years and 3 failed surgies. Obesity is not the only reason for Bariatrics
