Any pre-injection tips for Tymlos?
About to start Tymlos on Thursday. I know with Reclast a drink of water and 2 Tylenol before the infusion was helpful for absorption, side effects. Any similar pre injection tips from those who have been using Tymlos? Has anyone tried meclizine or another anti-vertigo drug to help with dizziness/nausea as body gets used to Tymlos?
Also - seeing here women talking about gaining weight and bloating on Tymlos - I haven't heard about this any where else. How bad is that? Being treated at a Boston Teaching Hospital and welcome this online community!

@babbsjoy I cannot eat dairy so I always supplement. At first I did calcium a few hours after Tymlos (because I knew it raised calcium levels briefly) but oddly, I had fewer side effects if I did it an hour before! I imagine it is different for everyone (and most can get it from diet) so playing around with the timing might be best!

Thank you for answering so quickly! My first dose of Tymlos is out for delivery from the specialty pharmacy as I type! Just trying to plan….i tend to overthink everything but find comfort in perceived control in planning!
@esb13 everyone's body is different so I just wanted to post that I did 3,000 units of D3 when I normally do 1,000-2,000 depending on the season. I hope your doctor does testing so you can determine best dose. For me, 5,000 units would be too high. Various things can affect aborption. I was grateful for periodic testing that let me know I was on the right track. I believe 80 is too high so I was concerned with the D3 started rising from low 50's after I stopped Tymlos!
Just to add to this conversation - I too have a dairy allergy and rely on fortified almond milk and other foods to get daily requirement of calcium. I refill a pitcher of 24 oz. almond milk in fridge to be sure I meet my daily quota. My blood calcium level has always been a steady 10 forever and yet dropped some after a month on TYMLOS so I started to drink a glass+ of almond milk immediately (450g calcium/8 oz) after my injection and my Calcium levels rose again to 10. As @windyshores wisely states, everyone is different so find what works for you. I have found monitoring levels is key and finding a provider willing to let you test routinely is important. Good luck, and keep us posted!
Exactly! Too high is as concerning as too low.
I am only taking the 5000 IU briefly to get levels up again quickly and then will taper back down. I have also taken K2 for years and have no idea if it's helping in any way but it's not hurting so I'll keep it in the regimen.
Thank you for all your wisdom and time to share your experiences.
@esb13
Thank you! I like the idea of drinking something calcium right around the injection time! I will plan to do so!
I was ready to quote @windyshores, but if I wait , I find she is reliable out here offshore.
I haven't taken Tymlos, but have the same experience with Forteo. I find the tripling works, though I want my D at 70.
If you have a cuff, it's interesting to take blood pressure readings immediately after injection and following at least again after four hours.
@windyshores
Just received my first Tymlos pen, but only one needle! On hold with specialty pharmacy. The pen they sent is a Becton Dickinson ultra fine III 31g x 5/16in. Does anybody remember if this one works well? Should I get my doc to do a separate script to local pharmacy? Getting silly for a med worked months to get…..

Sorry about that! A little dramatic there for a minute. After being on hold and going through three departments, hopefully will get additional needles…..sometime soon! 🤣. If not, I will get with doc and get a script for needles and try somewhere else. It will all work out!
@gently
Thank you! My doc said to try taking it at night right before bed….. but if I find I have problems I will definitely take readings!
