Taking Miralax and Meta Mucil in the same day
Hi everyone who is living with abdominal adhesions. I have been trying to learn to live with this for several months now without much help from my doctors. I'm on a very low fiber diet and take a small dose of Miralax daily on doctor's orders. I normally have two or three soft stools daily but for about the last month I have been having an episode of diarrhea once a day. this is not every day but is happening pretty frequently.
My question is can I also take Meta Mucil daily to help add bulk to my stool?
Any advice here would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you and good luck with your own adhesions.
Doc Meehan

Yes, I used the GO-Lax as well, when backed up and it DID work almost instantly... I wouldn't use it on a regular basis because I find it very powerful...once in a while is OK.
I badly need a laxative that wks as well as yours. I looked on Amazon for Go-Lax but they don’t sell it. Is it a prescription? If not, where can I get it?
@irr4et Go-Lax is not under prescription. It should be available in any health food/natural supplements store. I live in Ontario, Canada, and I got mine from The Healthy Planet store.
I just checked Amazon and it is available now. I did also see it on at least 3 health food/supplement sites in the US. Thinking about giving it a try myself.
@irr4et - I just checked on amazon.ca (Canadian site) and amazon.com (American site) and the Go-Lax is available on both sites.

I've been seeing a variety of practitioners since May first. My colonoscopy indicated "acute angulation of mid transverse colon" but my initial GI dismissed it as a problem & just prescribed Linzess. Now, after a 5day nuclear motility test w/0% transit of the large bowel... the colorectal surgeon says she is not ruling out the need for an operation. (I had a right hemicolectomy 12 years ago...2months ago my PT worried there were adhesions!) now the surgeon is away for two weeks. The various EHR portals are driving me crazy. My main question is are there options other than surgery for adhesions...& what does the surgery entail.
Thanks all! Judy
Hello @judithrae and welcome to the Digestive Support Group on Mayo Connect. You are asking a good question regarding abdominal adhesions. As this is your first post on Connect, please share as you are comfortable doing so, a little about what symptoms you are currently having that has led to these tests and led to an appointment with a surgeon.
I have used Miralax and Metamucil every day for close to a year, following a doctor’s advice. To my great joy, the digestive issues I have experienced for years (extreme gas, bloating, constipation) are under control now. I also follow the FODMAP diet. Haven’t felt this good in a very long time.
I have a redundant colon with chronic constipation and I mix miralax and metamucil in a 3:1 ratio, which works better than miralax alone. I would just run it by your Dr since they have you on a low fiber diet.
Hi Judy,
Have you checked to see if any of your meds/supplements have constipation as a possible side effect? Chemical constipation can be quite strong and halt motility. I had that happen with too large a dose (for me) of melatonin.
Also, if that isn't it, note that I have a hypersensitive gut, IBS-C and a redundant colon. I eat porridge and soups a lot and drink warm liquids, among other things, for 2/3-3/4 of my calorie intake. That may help with any adhesions too.
