Can I asked which Mayo you go to?

I go to Mayo Jacksonville and have been suffering with sinuistis, nasal drainage, infections, bronchitis for decades.

Recently had the full pulmanary tests to rule out asthma. They could not find a cause or duplicate the symptoms. I am working with my PCP to continue to investigate and find a solution.

Can you advise what you mean by postural drainage? I have been doing a steriod and saline rinse now for about a year. I do it twice a day. It is using the squeeze bottle hang my head over sink and then slowly squeeze bottle in one nostril as it comes out the other and then reverse.

Sound like whatevery you did helped so very interested.

Hi, @jc76,
When you say
"Recently had the full pulmonary tests to rule out asthma.'' What tests were involved?

Thanks!

I went to Rochester for my bronchiectasis and lungs and did not see ENT while I was there- frontal sinusitis hadn’t been diagnosed then. (I compressed 6 months into a couple paragraphs.) I did have PND and she prescribed Mayo’s compounded triple spray (mometazone, Ipratropium and Benadryl) and said pulmonologists are always concerned with secretions.

The postural drainage was for my bronchiectasis, not the sinuses. Chest CT had lots of nodules and mucus.

The triple spray is similar to the Azelastine and Flonase combo med with Ipratropium added. Since the latter has a shorter duration, I have a prescription for just it that I use mid-afternoon if I’m having a lot of secretions. It helps.
My sinusitis was my frontal sinus, which is hard to get meds into, rather than usual maxillary. That’s the reason I was doing Tobradex eye drops into nares in a head hanging position-just to get meds to the area. I’d had 2 weeks of oral antibiotics and steroids before he tried that.
The local ENT referred me to Penn’s frontal sinus doc (Adappa) and had me try the drops while waiting to get in. CT had cleared when I saw him, but I was still having hoarseness and excessive drainage. Adappa had me add steroid to my saline sinus rinses, too, and I use it the way you do.

Good luck to you. I know it’s frustrating. I’ve gotten so used to being stuffy and having PND that it’s hard to know what’s normal.

You had asked about postural drainage. It's basically a natural way to let gravity assist in draining mucus into the upper airways of your lungs so that it can be coughed out. Here is a helpful guide that shows what it is and how it works:

I don't do this consistently as part of my regimen, but when I do I usually do my saline nebulizer treatment beforehand in hopes that loosening the mucus will make the postural drainage more effective.
