What are your experiences with tramadol ?

Posted by Always Hopeful @AlwaysHopeful, Jun 16 7:42am

I have been taking tramadol for over 20 years. It was first prescribed for knee pain. This was the era when they did meniscus surgery. I'm sure the medication is not effective for me now, but it continues to be prescribed. Any other thoughts or experiences?

I really try not to take Tramadol because l can’t take it if l take Xanax, So if there is a day my back and hip pain are bad l have to leave off the Xanax and hope for the best. I can’t take NSAIDS because of my chronic kidney disease. I think if my rheumatologist would talk me about the pain instead of saying that she will treat the inflammation and the pain clinic can treat the pain. Maybe l just have too many things going on. If the pain gets too l intend to take the Tramadol and let the chips fall where they may.

Have you tried taking a 1/2 or 1/4 dose of the Xanax? You should be able to take both, but just need less if taken together. My rheumatologist prescribes Tramadol AND antiinflammatories, plus encourages taking Tylenol w them for maximum effectiveness.

Different manufactures of tramadol have different side effects or even pain med amounts inside. (Anywhere from 80% to 120% is legally acceptable but some have zero.

Some use gluten or whey as a filler which mean people allergic to gluten or milk can't absorb it or it makes them sick.

There is a website about tramedol and side effects. There was one manufacturer where everyone got a headache. Its esp hard when each month you get a pill from a different manufacturer. If it helps sometimes and not others? So compare the manufacturers on your bottle. This is true for all generic meds.

Could you share the tramadol side effects website? I have noticed that often my tramadol comes from different manufacturers, but have not thought much about it. Figured that it was just a pharmacy supply issue

I’ve been taking 6 tramadol with Tylenol plus 2 low dose Xanax at night for sleep for 9 years-osteoarthritis from neck to toes. Even my most drug-wary doctors said nothing about this combo. Did your doctor say you can’t take them together? I’ve tested the addiction deal by stopping tramadol for 3 weeks and aside from immediate pain spike I didn’t have mental or physical withdrawal. Just curious about why you were told no…

No, I was told this is fine. I only need 3 Tramadol. I add Motrin and Tylenol when needed, and 1/2 a 5 mg Xanax maybe 1X/month. My rheumatologist prescribes the Tramadol for arthritis.

@AlwaysHopeful Here is one site I use to research meds. Tramadol is listed under chronic pain meds. Hope this helps.

One medication that has worked for me is pregabalin, also know as Lyrica. After three years of chronic pain, this seems to be working. I'm holding my breath. I still take 2 tablets of tramadol (50 mg each) in the evening when I get a headache type of pain that can evolve into a migraine if I don't take the tramadol. I often wonder if this signifies an addiction to tramadol.

My pharmacist suggested using Brand names.

I started out taking tramadol for fibromyalgia pain and it has been increased to 4 times a day at 50mg plus to 500mg of Tylenol with it. It has very little effect on my pain. I am glad it works for some of you. I wish I could find some kind of pain relief. Any suggestions let me know. Thank you.
