Evinity and low iron saturation

Posted by gentlebreezes @gentlebreezes, Jun 18 8:50pm

Have completed 7 months of Evinity with virtually no side effects. Latest bloodwork results with PCP reflect low iron saturation. Will have tests for iron deficiency anemia.
Anyone else experience this?
Thanks ! 😊

@ gentlebreezes, I hesitate to respond because I haven't experienced this and haven't taken Evenity. But since now one else has ventured out and since we may be gently related, I send you this link.
Buried in the research is the effect of sclerostin on hematopoesis. You may or probably have low red blood cells (even if labs appear normal) while on Evenity. Low red blood cells can cause low iron saturation.

Thank you, @gently, for responding and including the link to the article. Unfortunately, this is the only study I was also able to locate. Bone markers comparison before and after beginning Evinity on target. Hoping additional studies are in progress.

gentlebreezes, it isn't usual to get orders for iron saturation. Insurance companies don't like to pay for the full iron panel. I wonder if more Evenity takers have low saturation and remain unaware of it. Perhaps it resolves when the twelve months are finished.

The cause of my low iron saturation is severe esophagitis, which was identified a few days ago via endoscopy. So relieved Evinity can continue.

I have borderline anemia (not severe enough to have transfusion, but low Ferritin and low iron panel and low saturation that was diagnosed about 3+ years before starting Evenity. I’m post menopausal and have no evidence of bleeding (colonoscopies, upper GI endoscopies, and a few other diagnostic tests), my hematologist thunks it’s most likely due to malabsorption and low intake of meat. My body responds well to Venofer infusions (so far about every 2.5 years).
So mine is not related to Evenity. I have follow up visits with my hematologist every 4 months and my gastroenterologist every year.

Thank you for the information. Should I need to go the infusion route, your medication reference can be quite helpful.

I began Evenity in December of 2023. In 2024 I was denied as a blood donor on three different occasions due to a low hemoglobin. Upon further investigation in August of 2024 they found my iron saturation had dropped to 7%. I can attribute this to nothing other than the Evenity injections. All other reasons for low iron saturation have been ruled out. I will complete my 1 year in November 2024.
