I have husband who helps me a lot. I am trying to walk short distances. I wish I can wear brace ordered by pain doctor. I have consultations with different doctors. Trying to figure out why I lost so much weight. I think from pain. I take occasionally Tramadol just to give myself brake from debilitating pain. My husband just ordered for me different brace to try . I heard that to wear brace all the time not good idea. Since my back pain started I been having numbness and pain in my knees. I am sure this pain is related to my back. What kind of Tai Chi exercises you were doing and did they helped with pain? One of my consulting doctors thinks that my pain might come from annular tears as well. It is very confusing.

I believed swelling/inflammation from the fractures caused numbness and pain below the fractures. They also affected lower GI function. You might have other causes. Things got better, they really did. It takes time. I know it's hard to hear that when you are in serious pain.

I barely wore a brace. I still use it though- 3 years later- if I have to lift some things. I mostly cannot lift much! I don't think a brace is going to help that much but I could be wrong. I hope you can discuss with PT.

I didn't do PT or tai chi until things had settled down but I did talk to a PT about what movements to avoid and strategies to use. It is good you have a spouse to help!
