Best Calcium Supplement?

Which is the best type of calcium supplement? I've been taking calcium citrate (Citracal) which I understand is more easily absorbed than calcium carbonate (Caltrate). Most recently I've been hearing about calcium phosphate as an alternative. I like that it is available as a powder and may be less constipating than calcium citrate but it seems that is calcium phosphate is more for pets. Your thoughts?

I’m always on the look out for food sources of calcium. I saw that Gerolsteiner Mineral Water has a good dose of natural calcium in it: 375 ml (about 12 oz) @130mg calcium. I’ve been getting the 750 ml bottles. It’s more expensive than most; however, if you don’t drink the entire bottle at one time, the natural carbonation lasts for a couple days if you screw the top back on which I appreciate. I think Margaret Martin recommends this water somewhere on her website. I have been taking Calcium Citrate 600 mg for couple of months

Today I came across the below video which is very informative and have decided it’s better to monitor Calcium via food intake so can avoid supplements

Good morning, I would like to switch from calcium carbonate to calcium citrate. I’ve read that citrate is easier to absorb and digest as well. May I ask, what brand and amount of calcium citrate are you taking? How long have you been taking it.? Does it seem to be working for you? I have osteoporosis of the spine. Thanks you for your thoughts.

I use Citracal Petites (200mg each). I was taking only 2 a day (400 mg.) plus I get 300 mg in a multi but my nutritionist says that I'm probably not absorbing much calcium in a multi. And I drink fortified almond or soy milk. And since I love cheese I thought I had all my bases covered in calcium. But consuming so much cheese really makes my arthritis so much worse (all dairy does that to me) so I'm back to having no dairy and now I've increased my Citracal to 3 tablets a day.

I have used bone builder with magnesium by metragenics for years. It is a bovine based calcium. Also take vitamin K, Ostinal 450, D, and a multivitamin.

I drink Gerolsteiner mineral water. It has about 130 mg calcium in a 12 oz serving which is about the highest content I have found in mineral waters. If you have a Trader Joes near you, they sell it by the case.
