watch glucose meters

I keep seeing ads for watches that read your blood glucose level without the traditional prick. Has anyone bought one and do they work?

Interested in more discussions like this? Go to the Diabetes & Endocrine System Support Group.

I’ve seen those as well. I’ve seen reviews of a number of these watches on YouTube. Search under Blood glucose watch.
Bottom line these watches are very hit and miss. Could just as well throw dice. Not recommended for glucose control from what I’ve seen.

I was hoping for good results. I do not like the daily pricks. 🙂

The FDA has issued a statement saying to beware of those watches that supposedly read blood glucose levels. Have you considered using a CGM (Continuous Glucose Monitor)? My Abbott Freestyle Libre 3 displays my blood glucose levels automatically on my smartphone. Dexcom's CGM also displays BG direct to Apple Watch.

Yeah, me either. I stick on the sides of the fingertips. Less painful also keeps the scarring away from the tips so fingertips stay sensitive as they should be.

Get a Libre 3 meter. No finger pricks and you don't have to put to reader on the sensor. Very easy.

I agree, but it needs to be charged more often.

There's some misinformation floating around here. Let me set this straight.

The days of finger pricks are now gone and forgotten. I'm using the Libre 3 with my smartphone. The results are incredible, enlightening, and will change your life for the better. All diabetics should be using a CGM. I randomly do a finger prick to compare with the CGM. Last nights Libre 3 reading was 142, a blood prick was 140. The Libre 3 is incredibly accurate. Each sensor lasts 14 days. There is no such thing as charging. You stick it on and forget it. You can't feel it and you will forget it's there. Then with the LibreView application your blood history is continually sent to your physician of choice so they have full records. Of course you have access to the LibreView website and the amount of information there will astound you. So keep informed, get set up with a CGM with your primary and start to enjoy your life with more information than you can handle. Libre 3 is changing my life. With Medicare I don't pay a dime. Everyone DO THIS. If you have questions I'm here.

I find that accuracy with my Libre 3 falls firmly on the “your mileage may vary” realm. Mine is often 50 points high - and in such way that it can’t be attributed to delay between blood and skin. I find it useful for trends and getting a rough idea where I’m at. But the blood test is still needed for me.

Agreed, blood is always needed. There is no way I would depend solely on the Libre 3. And variability is true but mine has been very accurate in the past. When compared to blood many of my units have been unbelievably dead on. Perhaps Abbott is testing the market on stability of the unit. Tell ya what kenag why don't the two of us keep records and compare notes. I'll try to take blood samples more often and keep a log if you will do the same. We should keep track of the lot #'s and serial #'s. Between the two of us we could have some realtime, accurate numbers and be able to quantify what we are calling "variability". Because I agree, there is variability. Perhaps we could quantify that variability.

A couple months ago I had a unit that within a few days was reading 100 units high. I ripped it off and relpaced it and all was well with the following sensor. I use my Samsung S20 to monitor. Perhaps I should be using the supplied reader. But the reader is not as convenient as your cell phone. At any rate I just got around to calling in for a replacement yesterday and was confronted with an exceptionally rude individual. It was not a pleasant conversation and if I ever find out who it was I'll deal with it appropriately. But she did say that it could be replaced on line as opposed to the phone call. Because, so far, Abbott is replacing the units for free. And they should do so with the retail cost of those things. True Medicare is paying for mine but I paid for my Medicare, it wasn't given free.

And also - I just started with mounjaro. We should talk about that.

kenag I'm in Arizona, where are you?

I’ve been on the Dexcom G7 since April and it hasn’t always been smooth sailing either. First day after insertion can be frustrating. Plus side is that it can be calibrated unlike the Libre. Once it gets‘trained’ I can trust it in working with my pump. Believe it is slightly more accurate than the G6but losing connectivity and compression lows are much more frequent with the G7. Always wore the G6 on my abdomen whereas the suggested site for the G7 is the upper arm.
