Erleada and Lupron: Anyone have late appearing side effects?

Posted by dwheels8 @dwheels8, Jul 26 11:38pm

I’ve been on these Erleada and Lupron for a few months. Up till 2 weeks ago I had no side effects. Suddenly I’m nauseous and having to throw up every few days. Also I have diarrhea. No appetite.
Has anyone also had these symptoms?
My PSA is -.01. I’m getting ready to start radiation at the end of August.

I'm sorry to hear that. I've never had nausea or diarrhoea because of ADT (Firmagon/Orgovyx) and Erleada over the past 3 years — when it's happened, it's always been obviously related to a bug going around or something I ate, and it's never lasted longer than 2–3 days.

(Layperson writing) As I learned after a bout of in the tropics years ago, prolonged diarrhoea puts you at risk of dehydration and other serious issues, so it would be a good idea to see your physician as soon as possible and try to sort it out. If you start to feel weak, dizzy, or confused, consider going straight to the emergency room (don't drive yourself).

After being on Eligard for 2 months and the combo Eligard plus Erleada for almost 2 months no diarrhea but I have lost my appetite. In part perhaps due to a rather monotonous plant-based diet so I am treating myself to a few meals of plant-based meat every week. Last PSA a month ago was 2.01ng/mL down from 24.96ng/mL a month before that. Rather have a loss of appetite than be gaining weight. Waiting for the combo hormone therapy to shrink tumors significantly to begin a directed therapy.

As always good luck on your prostate cancer journey!

I can't guarantee that your experience will be the same, but after 3 years on ADT and Erleada, the side effects have become much-more tolerable for me — more of a nuisance than something that affects my quality of life. Getting off an injectable (Firmagon) and switching to daily pills (Orgovyx) for the ADT made a big difference.

Erleada and Abuteriene are no longer working. PSA is 74 and climbing… what’s next?
Dr suggests Pluvicto?
Any luck with stem cells?

To “dwheels8”, My experience with Lupron shots for 2 years were the side effects of hot flashes, body hair loss, and loss of energy and strength. Never had Erleada so can’t comment on that.
(My Lupron side effects started in about 2 weeks so hope you enjoyed your ‘free ride’ while it lasted.)
Maybe consider quizzing your oncologist if you could try another combination to by-pass the worst side effects.
