Chronic constipation

Posted by razelrosey @razelrosey, Jul 12 7:51am

For the past year or so my rib cage area is like really painful the other day I had a small backache that radiated around to the front and I went to ER and they discovered which I have had problems before that I had backed up constipation so I have been taking MiraLAX Fiber supplement magnesium citrate stool softener, and I still have not evacuated like I should have a gastrologist a new one in a month. I hope I don’t explode before the month is over. Any suggestions out there?

Carolinlv, just a short comment. I read the part about your daughters saying that "you do it to yourself ", when you first posted it. Of course I know nothing about your daughters and your relationship with them... BUT, when I read this the first time, I gasped out loud and dropped my iPad off my lap. MY OPINION ONLY: this is an amazingly horrible thing to say to you. I am so very sorry for you, to hear this from your daughters. I spilled tears for you. This must've hurt you a lot. I am choosing my words carefully here. I am hoping that they do not live close by you, so you don't have to be hurt by them often. Use your imagination to envision what I would say to them. Hint, 👿😱‼️. I have twin adult daughters who both live in Georgia. One of them told me, 6+- years ago that "my health problems ruined her life." , over the phone. I nearly gagged trying to stop my sobbing. We have not spoken of it at all. Even her sister does not know what she really meant, but her sister does know that she has bad feelings towards me. I share this with you, so you would know why I feel so bad for you. Ok, gotta go, I need some Kleenex. Shelley Oh, yeah, Golden years 👎🏼‼️

It’s actually quite the opposite with my girls. I raised them alone. We are very close and they are comfortable talking to me about anything. The reason my youngest felt comfortable telling me this is because we both suffer anxiety and she knows what she is capable of doing to herself. We are both aware of the problems our anxiety may be causing us, but neither of us seem to be able to get past it. I absolutely appreciate your concern and can understand why my comment might’ve been horrifying. It makes me think maybe I should remove it! She would never do anything to hurt me and we are as close as a mother and daughter could be. I think she was just reminding me to look inward at how I might be causing problems for myself that I could help either on my own or possibly with care from another type of doctor. I feel so bad for you, Shelley, that you do have a child who would say horrible things to you. Being unkind to your mother is something I find intolerable. I have an older sister who treated my mother badly, and I stopped speaking to her entirely because of it. She behaved so horribly and hurt my mother during a visit over 35 years ago that I booted her out of the house right then. We haven’t spoken since. I don’t understand why so many children want to blame all of their woes on their parents (though I know there are some who deserve to be blamed!) My mother was a gem and my sister’s unhappiness was of her own doing. I’m going to guess you are probably a gem too and your daughter needs someone to blame. Now I hope I’m not speaking out of turn. I wish you all the best. In addition to everything we have going on physically, we should not feel emotionally beaten up by our own children. I KNOW you deserve better based upon the compassion I feel from you 😢❤️❤️

Sure glad I held my mouth in check. Here we are sharing on this site about medical issues and the threads can take some interesting turns. I am thrilled that you are so close that you can share with your daughters. My other daughter and I can share like that. My concern is that I have genetic issues, that I was told to inform all my first line relatives. So I got creative, wrote a note as brief as I could. Then if she chooses to ignore it, I can't force her to get tested. Now, I'm not crying, I'm jealous 🤪😉‼️‼️lol Shelley

I don’t think I could’ve taken your comments as anything but how they were intended. You seem like a very kind person. I wish you lived near me! I think we could be friends.❤️ I was thinking the same thing… Do you think people are offended by our personal conversations? 😳

Hey ladies, I find that drinking warm water helps a lot to my stomach. I don't have any irritation to my empty stomach when taking probiotics. I find people in US drink iced water or cold water a lot and that will be scary to our Asian. 🙂

My absolute no is the tomato🤢😂

@carolinlv - I don’t like tomatoes either - but if I have to eat them I’d rather eat them raw than cooked or stewed I to anything! Don’t like spaghetti sauce either!

Same here and the tomato is my favorite food but my body hates acid, especially citric.

Carolinlv, this was so kind of you to take the time to reply. I think reading your comment was the first time I smiled today. Gosh, I hope others aren't offended by our personal conversations... I have found that when I am looking online for answers to a question, I tend to take many side steps to other sites, and sometimes even confuse myself. It does seem that you and I are reading /replying to similar posts. If you're interested we can do direct messaging, thru the site or to our own email.. If so, I would be...sw35gw@icloud.com

Hi Shelly Nice to hear from you. Because of my gastroparesis I can’t eat all the fresh fruits & vegetables that I should eat since it can cause wicked diarrhea and or constipation. I had a heart attack in 2009, have an aortic arch aneurysm of 4 c.m. CAD high blood pressure ( controlled by meds. & high cholesterol ( controlled by meds & by diet ( ha ha!) I have a specialist for problems from my head to my toes. No one mentions age but I’m almost 79. I retired at 71 & have been sick since then.
My EPI - About 8 mos. I started with liquid diarrhea & was losing weight. Could it be Miralax - lower the dose - continued poop looked greasy- told my GI ( whom I love ). He did the testing and I was diagnosed with severe EPI & put on Creon ( which is 3 pancreatic enzymes. My pancreas doesn’t produce them, especially with fats & protein. If unchecked it can cause malnutrition. It’s quite expensive ( no generic )- $80/ 15 days. He gave me the samples he had. The med comes in like 5 different doses and the higher the dose the more expensive!! Problem is that it screws with my gastroparesis.
I couldn’t figure out why my pancreas is damaged since I never drank any type of wine, beer or alcohol. Both of our parents & grandparents were alcoholics. I googled pancreas damage and found it can be caused by many childhood diseases, meds. & Epstein Barr ( can cause mono- which I never had). Every winter I would have s&s of mono - swollen lymph nodes & fever + no mono but very high Epstein Barr.
The older We get the more things we learn that we wished we had known many years ago
Hope I didn’t bore you with all this info. Wei get back to you on the other thing which you asked me about.

I'm curious, as I am on Creon, and the pancreas expert told me that my pancreas looked fine (I had a ton of various exams on it). However, it simply isn't functioning, as if it stopped making enzymes, and there is no visual damage from anything such as drinking wine . I did drink several glasses a day in the Covid lock down, but am a non-smoker, and am not a heavy drinker relate to my French and Italian co-workers, an I stopped drinking immediately when told to do so. I also do not smoke. Perhaps the doctor didn't mention the visual quality of the pancreas...but he told me he had seen 70 year old alcoholics that had a pancreas that functioned better than mine, and that their pancreas had significant visual damage from drinking. It's so odd to hear that their pancreas works better than mine.

As far as the Creon goes, it does help with the diarrhea, but often results in constipation and the issues associated with that.
