Does anyone else have a blocked SVC?

Posted by daniliz @daniliz, Jul 26 8:54am

Hi everyone, I am seeing the vascular department next week regarding my blocked SVC. My local doctors do not feel comfortable ballooning it open anymore. I know there is a major surgery, I am not sure the name of the surgery. But they like graft a vein from your leg and move it to your chest. I’m not certain I will be having this surgery yet. But I was wondering if anyone has had it and can explain it to me? I have severe gastroparesis and was on TPN but due to blocked SVC they can’t get a line in so I have a femoral port that they don’t want to use for TPN. So needless to say I am not doing well and afraid I will be worse by the time I travel next week. But any information would be greatly appreciated. I just don’t know what to expect. Thank you

I wish you well on your journey through all the difficult decisions you will make. Please give the full names for TPN and SUV and any others for those of us who do not know their meaning. I hope others will also add the full name to abreviations. John

Hello @daniliz and welcome to Mayo Connect. We do have other members who have discussed SVC, some of these discussions are in the Blood Health Support Group. Here is a link to each conversation that discusses SVC.

I would encourage you to read through these posts and post your questions to any of the members by hitting "Reply" under their post.

As this is your first post on Connect, please feel free to share, as you are comfortable doing so, a bit about your history with this problem. If I am understanding correctly, this was caused by gastroparesis. Is that correct?

I look forward to hearing from you again. Will you post again either here or in one of the discussions listed above?
